SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Super Bomberman R 2’, ‘Gunbrella’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 13th, 2023. In today’s article, things are a little quiet. Suspiciously quiet? I don’t know, it’s a Wednesday. Even in the best of weeks this isn’t a barn-burner of a day. That said, the small batch of new releases makes each punch count. Super Bomberman R 2, Gunbrella, and more are here to see if they can coax some cash out of your well-guarded (and may I say fashionable) pockets. After that, we’ve got the usual lists of new and outgoing sales. Some decent stuff there, too. Let’s get to the games!

New Releases

Super Bomberman R 2 ($49.99)

It’s the new Bomberman! As you would expect, this game is loaded up with pretty much everything you need for a fun gaming night with friends or enemies. There are tons of modes, a stage editor, a bunch of customizations to unlock, and support for up to eight players via local multiplayer and a whopping sixty-four via online play. As usual, the single-player mode isn’t really much to write home about. But if you’re looking for some multiplayer enjoyment it’s still really hard to beat Bomberman. BY HADOSAN. Oh wait, no. BY KONAMI.

Gunbrella ($14.99)

The latest from Doinksoft, the pairing that brought us the lovely Gato Roboto and the mysterious Demon Throttle (that was one of those physical-only releases that seemed like a good idea to two or three people for about five minutes a while ago), Gunbrella is a side-scrolling action-adventure game where you use a gun umbrella to do pretty much anything you need to do. You know, like the Penguin. Before he was a gross mobster, I guess. The Burgess Meredith version. You can use it to shoot enemies, glide, dash, and whatever else is required. As you play through, you’ll find scrap and parts you can use for upgrades. It’s definitely fun, but I’ll let you know exactly how fun when I review it early next week.

Gravity Oddity ($14.99)

Your roommate Gary has gone missing. Normally this might be cause to celebrate, but you can’t pay the rent alone. Thus begins your grand adventure, as you seek to solve the mystery behind Gary’s disappearance and bring him home before the bills pile up. You’ve got a teleport gun, gravity boots, and a jetpack. With a bit of luck, you might just succeed. This is a roguelite action game with lots of weapon modifications and other loot to find along the way. There are also cosmetics! Well, it looks fine.

MythForce ($29.99)

This sure looks nice, I’ll give it that much at the very least. It’s inspired by old Saturday morning cartoons, with He-Man and the Masters of the Universe looming large over it. It’s a first-person roguelite action game where you take your chosen hero into battle against the evil forces of Deadalus, the Vampire Lord. Level up, seek out artifacts to bolster your powers, and take down hordes of foes. Go it alone or team up with someone else via online multiplayer to double your odds. With Beamdog developing and Aspyr publishing, there’s certainly some potential here, but does it live up to it? I haven’t been able to play it yet, but early impressions seem mixed. Perhaps wait a bit before jumping in, unless you really like the look of it.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

As with the new releases of the day, today’s list of new sales is small but has some solid stuff in it. Coromon at a new low price, the superb Hypnospace Outlaw on sale, and a big discount on DNF Duel: Who’s Next. Oh, and one of my personal faves, Little Noah: Scion of Paradise, is on sale again. Same price as last time, but it’s worth it. I’ll let you sift through the outbox on your own, as there are plenty of goodies there as well.

That’s all for today, friends. If you’re reading this and there hasn’t been a Nintendo Direct announced, then I guess all those rumors were probably wrong. That’s too bad, as I was really looking forward to Mother 3. That was just a joke. Please do not ever expect Mother 3. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
