SNK just pushed out updates to nine classics on iOS including the brilliant Garou: Mark of the Wolves ($3.99). These updates add support for iOS 14 and later (the games require iOS 14 and later now as well) with native support for newer screen size. I tested Metal Slug 3 on my iPhone 11 and iPad Pro (2020) with today’s update and it runs well after some adjustment to the video options to make it look cleaner. Some of these games have gotten their first update in over half a decade today as well. SNK is in an interesting place on iOS and Android with the excellent ACA NeoGeo series of games seeing a new game released each week. It is good to see SNK and Dotemu not forget about these old purchases with today’s update. The games updated include The King of Fighters 97, The King of Fighters 98, Garou: Mark of the Wolves, Metal Slug, Metal Slug 2, Metal Slug 3, Metal Slug X, Samurai Shodown II, and Blazing Star. For a blast from the past, check out Eli and Jared playing the original release of Garou: Mark of the Wolves from back in 2015 below:
If you’ve not gotten the games yet and are curious about them, you can adjust the aspect ratio of the gameplay, move the virtual buttons, resize the buttons, adjust the button opacity, toggle scanlines, video filtering, and more. I never tested them with a controller before, but I can confirm that Metal Slug 3 worked fine with my PS5 DualSense controller so I assume the others will as well. I don’t own all nine games here to test right now. If you’d like to grab them, you can buy The King of Fighters 97 here, The King of Fighters 98 here, Garou: Mark of the Wolves here, Metal Slug here, Metal Slug 2 here, Metal Slug 3 here, Metal Slug X here, Samurai Shodown II here, and Blazing Star here. Did you grab any of them back in the day when they hit iOS or do you plan on buying them in the near future to play on your iPhone or iPad?
