SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Date Night Bowling’, ‘Little Bug’, ‘Real Boxing 2’, and Today’s Other New Releases and Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for November 26th, 2021. In today’s article, we look at the rest of the releases for the week. There are a couple of good games in today’s batch, and we’ve got summaries of the whole lot. We also have the new sales of the day, and the list of discounts that will finish up over the weekend. And that will pretty much do it, but that’s probably enough for what is a holiday for most of you. Let’s get to it!

New Releases

Date Night Bowling ($9.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Well, this is an unusual one. It’s first and foremost a bowling game, and a rather good one if you can appreciate arcade-style takes on the sport. But it’s also a romance game. Pick your character and your date, then try to impress them with your bowling moves. Each pair has different chemistry, with successful dates harder to pull off with some than others. It’s not just about the bowling, as you need to keep your date happy in various other ways. If you just want to bowl, you can do that too. You can bowl alone or pull in another player for a local multiplayer duel. I’ll have a review of this one soon.

Little Bug ($12.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

This is a fun little game where you need to navigate levels using a grappling ability of sorts. A little girl named Nyah needs to find her way home, but she can’t make it alone. Luckily, a little spirit decides to give her a hand. It’s an interesting set-up. You can’t jump, but you can control where the spirit flies and use it to pull Nyah towards it. You use this ability in simple ways at first, but business picks up in a hurry. It really, really picks up. It’s an interesting game with a good hook.

Night Lights ($4.99)

This is a puzzle platformer about a tiny robot who uses light and shadow to make his way through forty-five levels. Collect crystals, activate tools, and use the light sources to cut through the darkness and solve the puzzles in your path. Objects and paths will appear or disappear depending on whether they’re lit or in shadow, and the game tosses new gimmicks in as you go to keep things interesting. It has good ideas, but it feels like it ends before it fully explores them. Still, the price is reasonable.

Starlight Shores ($11.99)

This is a short romance-themed visual novel about a group of young people who go on a weekend getaway to a town called Seaside. It’s probably by the sea, unless its founders were masters of irony. Anyway, some of these people are friends. Some are meeting for the first time. Romance is afoot, tensions will fly, and the choices you make will determine the outcome. You know how this sort of thing goes.

Cabin Fever ($9.99)

This is a somewhat less short but still rather brief romance-themed visual novel about a guy who is cut off from society and what happens to his life when a young woman shows up on his property one day. Will she be able to bring him out of his shell? Or will his anti-social personality win out? The choices you make will determine the outcome. You know how this sort of thing goes.

Real Boxing 2 ($14.99)

This is a port of the rather well-done mobile boxing title from Vivid Games, minus all of the extra IAPs in exchange for a proper up-front price. I remember when this game first launched back in the day, it had a Rocky license. This version doesn’t, naturally. But that was never the best part of the game anyway. You create your fighter and work your way up through the ranks, playing training minigames between fights to improve your stats. The actual boxing itself is quite fun, and in spite of the title there are some really silly boss battles along the way. Yes, you will beat up Santa. No ho-ho-holds barred, friends. You can also play against another person in local multiplayer. Give the free version a try on your mobile device if you want a taste before committing.

Armed to the Gears ($11.99)

A top-down shooter with tower defense elements, Armed to the Gears takes advantage of the fact that just about anything is better with mechs. And yes, the mechs do make this better. But it’s still a bit average all-around, with a meager eight missions that can be wrapped up surprisingly quickly. An endless mode helps mitigate the general lack of things to do here, but it’s not quite enough. Not terrible, but I have trouble mustering much enthusiasm for it.

Our Summer Festival ($12.72)

This is a collection of minigames based on Japanese summer festivals. There are ten events in total, covering things like goldfish scooping, takoyaki cooking, ring toss, and mikoshi racing. You can play alone against the computer or pull in some friends or family members for local multiplayer. Up to four people can play at once. This one comes from the same developer as the various Desktop sports games, and it seems to have a similar style in its presentation.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Okay, this isn’t much compared to yesterday, but it’s not nothing. The Atari Flashback Classics set is a nice get for those interested in digging into gaming history. Treachery in Beatdown City is at what I believe is its lowest price, and might be worth taking a punt on if you find its unique premise intriguing. The weekend outbox is sparse as usual, so it’s probably better to put your money towards those Cyber Deals if you’ve got coin to spare. Check those lists anyway, of course.

What will you all be playing this weekend? Whatever it is, I hope you have a good time. Have a great weekend, and as always, thanks for reading!
