‘wipEout Rush’ Brings Sony’s ‘wipEout’ Franchise Back in a New iOS and Android Early Next Year

Publisher Rogue Games just announced wipEout Rush for iOS and Android. wipEout Rush is a new entry in Sony’s beloved franchise that hasn’t seen a new release since the PS4 and PS VR wipEout Omega Collection. wipEout Rush is a card-based racer that promises 60fps gameplay on modern hardware. While I initially was pretty disappointed that this mobile wipEout game doesn’t have the traditional franchise gameplay, I will check out because I’m always up for more wipEout. This is a card-based racer as shown in the announcement video below which (via IGN) has some great visuals. Rogue Games also mentioned that the team wanted to rethink wipEout for mobile. Watch the wipEout Rush announcement trailer below:

wipEout Rush is set to debut on iOS and Android in early 2022. It will include an electronica soundtrack by composer Alastrair Lindsay, 60 ships from the original games, 12 championship cup races in five different environments, amd a comic-book influenced narrative. As of now, more details aren’t available for wipEout Rush. I will still play it when the game releases next year because I enjoyed wipEout on PS4 and want to see how wipEout Rush looks on modern iOS hardware. What do you think of the wipEout Rush gameplay so far and what would you like to see in a potential PS5 wipEout entry?

Oh god. Maybe I'll just emulate the psp and ps1 versions on my ipad

Emulation is a joy these days. I still remember playing the original back in the day though, epic nights with my mates. This I will pass on, also, free … microtransacted to hell?

pPSPp and Wipeout Pure/Pulse, plus a hardware controller on Android is all I need!

Card-based gameplay?! Comic book narrative? C’mon, man! Way to ruin a perfectly good classic game! Why change up something that wasn’t broken in the first place?! I saw Wipeout, got excited, then continued reading and watched the trailer, and, um, I’m gonna pass on this. Meh… Just not what I think it should be! Simple as that! Too bad…. Not interested the way it’s being presented this time around.

No, it doesn't. Quite the opposite.

Having played every wipeout clone going on iOS I can safely say they made the right decision here. The controls for wipeout would not translate well to a touchscreen at all.

They look like they went down the Metal Gear Ac!d route with a card based reactive management game which sounds like fun. Cho

      Incorrect.

Both "Riptide GP Renegade" and "Repulze", which are similar games, work fine on Android and iOS. Both games, just like the excellent pPSPp emulator (with Wipeout Pure/Pulse fully supported) support HID hardware controllers.

Thus, I fail to see any merit in your opinion.
