Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 3rd, 2021. In today’s article, we go through the remaining releases of the week. There are a number of interesting games to look at, and we’ll do just that. After we finish with those summaries, we’ll head on over to the sales wagon to see what’s up. The latest sales and the games heading off sale over the weekend are here in easily digestible lists. Let’s get to the games!
New Releases
A Night at the Races ($9.99)
SwitchArcade Highlight!
A curious blend of adventure game and masocore platformer, A Night at the Races follows the story of a player looking to win the prize money in an illegal video game tournament. The adventure game bits are a clever frame for a rather enjoyable Super Meat Boy-style platforming game with more than two hundred levels to play. There are online leaderboards so you can compare your speeds against other real players, and some extra modes if you feel like mixing things up. It’s quite good.
Pippu – Bauble Quest ($3.99)
A rather modest looking 2D platformer. You get fourteen levels of hopping, bopping, and swimming action for your four bucks. There are fifty-six baubles to collect as you make your way through the game, and you’ll need to find them all if you want to save your family. Not much exciting about it, but for the low price I suppose it does what it needs to.
Extreme Car Driver ($11.99)
We’re pretty much getting one of these every week now, aren’t we? It’s another mission-based driving game, and there’s likely a free version of it on your App Store of choice if you want to dig around. There are fifteen different vehicles to drive and seventy-five missions to complete. The main gimmick here is the emphasis on extreme courses. It will mostly likely be on sale for half-price within a few weeks.
Block Puzzle ($5.99)
Pix Arts has another template flip for us today. It’s one of those puzzle games where you place the shapes on the board and try to make horizontal or vertical lines. If you do, they disappear. The aim is to place all of the pieces. There are millions of these you can play on your phone for free. Keep your six bucks for delicious Snickers bars.
Active Life Outdoor Challenge ($49.99)
Here’s another exercise game if you’re starting to get tired of Ring Fit Adventure and Fitness Boxing. The focus here is on outdoor events, with more than a dozen of them to jump into. You can play by yourself or with another player via local multiplayer. You need the Leg Strap to play this properly, and if you want to do multiplayer you’ll need two of them. So yeah, I think you really need to already own Ring Fit Adventure. Can you get Leg Straps separately? Oh hey, you can. Third-party ones, but it’s a leg strap. Probably not rocket science.
Angel’s Punishment ($24.99)
Well, that eShop description doesn’t give me much to go on. This is apparently a “respectable and very good ‘metrovania’ game with classic pixel art“. You play as an angel who interferes with earthly matters and is punished by having its wings taken away. The pixel art looks okay in some places and dreadful in others, and as I haven’t had much of a chance to play this yet, that’s really all I can say about it.
Golf Club Wasteland ($9.99)
After a massive climate crisis, the Earth is rendered an uninhabitable wasteland. Luckily, some of humanity has survived: the rich people that fled to Mars. And for funsies, they like to come back to Earth and use its ruins as a golf course. Yeah, they would. Anyway, this is a bit like things like Desert Golfing or Super Stickman Golf. There are thirty five holes to complete, though the challenge of sinking the ball is really only half of the experience. You’re also meant to take in the sights and sounds of this bleak post-apocalypse and try to piece together what happened to humanity through the sources available to you. There are a few modes to play as well, so you’ve got more than just the main story to complete.
Virtuous Western ($4.99)
I’m not really sure what is virtuous about this game, but maybe I’m reading too much into the title. You’re presented with thirty stages filled with enemies and gimmicks. Your job is to defeat all of the enemies on each stage without biting the dirt yourself. How you do that is up to you. You can shoot them directly, drop crates on their heads, explode TNT crates, trick them into shooting each other, and so on. It’s a little action and a little puzzle. Amusing enough for a fiver.
Big Rumble Boxing: Creed Champions ($39.99)
This is a decent boxing game that uses its license very well. If you like Rocky or Creed, you’ll probably enjoy yourself here. It has all the expected characters, Eye of the Tiger, all of that stuff. The boxing action is decent, but don’t expect a deep simulation or anything. It’s all very arcade-like, which isn’t a bad thing. You even get a proper story to play through for every character, and some of the original characters have some wild ones. You can also go glove-to-glove with a friend or family member in a local two-player multiplayer mode.
Endless Fables: Shadow Within ($14.99)
I do my best with these, but I have to be honest: I have trouble telling some of these hidden object adventure games apart from their screenshots. Anyway, this is the new one in the Endless Fables series. Pamela returns to the town of Mittenwald to settle a matter from the past, but she stumbles on a frightening mystery. Will she be able to save herself and her friends from the shadows that stalk the town?
Hix: Puzzle Islands ($7.90)
Hot New game! Look, the description in the eShop says we said it, so I’m saying it here. Anyway, this is a port of a rather well-received mobile game. You get 180 levels set across six different worlds, with the idea in each being to restore the islands by swapping the tiles into their correct places. It’s a bit on the sedate side of things, but you might enjoy it if you’re looking for something to relax with.
The Last Show of Mr. Chardish ($9.99)
This stylish walking simulator takes you on a journey through worlds from the mind a director named Robert Chardish. You play as an actress named Ella and must explore these imaginary worlds to try to discover the meaning behind the last show of this visionary director. While it’s not the longest of things and the gameplay elements are a bit on the weaker side, this certainly delivers a solid, satisfying tale in a gorgeous, painting-like style.
Forty Thieves Solitaire Collection ($5.79)
Another collection of Solitaire variants, this time focusing on Forty Thieves/Big Forty Solitaire. You get ten variants, a couple of helper options, and not much else. The presentation is very plain as these things go, which you may or may not care about.

It’s not the giant list we’re used to seeing on a Friday, but there are plenty of decent games to consider. 505 Games is celebrating their 15th anniversary, and most of their titles have discounts of some kind. FDG Entertainment is also running another sale on its selection. As for the outbox, there isn’t a whole lot in there that you absolutely need to act on. Still, you may want to consider Ultra Street Fighter II if that’s a game you want to own. I was incorrect about it never being on sale before, but this is only its fourth sale in four years, so we may not see it again for a long while. Well, check those lists as you usually do.
