Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for September 1st, 2021. In today’s article, we’ve got a little bit of news to dig into before we head into the new releases of the day. Nothing terribly thrilling, but we have to be thorough if we’re doing the job right. After summarizing all of those, we’ve got the lists of new and expiring sales for you to check out. Let’s hit the road and see what we can find!
News
Dungeon Crawler RPG ‘Demon Gaze Extra’ Coming West on December 9th
Nature abhors a vacuum of Etrian Odyssey games on handheld gaming systems, and whenever such a situation occurs many games will try to fill the void. One of the better ones on the Sony PlayStation Vita was Experience and Kadokawa’s Demon Gaze. While that version was brought to the West by NIS America, this fresh new Extra version will be coming our way via Clouded Leopard Entertainment. What does the Extra mean here? Improved visuals, some quality of life improvements to make battles less tedious, an enhanced autopilot function for dungeon navigation, a new job category, and more! Demon Gaze Extra will be available on the Switch in North America and Europe on December 9th.
New Releases
Ravva and the Cyclops Curse ($4.99)
Hey, there’s some of that five-dollar Switch platformer energy. This one looks pretty neat, but I’m a bit concerned about the fact that it only has ten levels. I suppose it depends on the length of those levels, but it doesn’t give the game a lot of room to build up its mechanics and challenges in a satisfying way. You can summon four different companions, each with their own strengths and weaknesses, and deal with enemies, puzzles, and traps alike as you make your way to the lair of the Cyclops Lord.
Instant Sports Paradise ($34.99)
Well, this is a different turn for the Instant Sports series. It’s more of an assortment of mini-games than anything, some of them very sports-like and others decidedly not. You get fifteen events in all, and up to four players can join in via local multiplayer. There are lots of items you can unlock to customize your character, and some secrets to find by exploring the oasis. I suppose if you’ve enjoyed the previous games in the Instant Sports line, you’ll want to give this a look.
Galaxy Squad ($9.99)
This is a turn-based tactical roguelite that is obviously taking some cues from XCOM, and you know what? It does a decent job of things. You’re basically doing some exploration with random events, similar to things like FTL. If you get in a battle, it’s time for the turn-based fun. It has its share of flaws, such as its generic setting or wild balancing, but there are worse ways to blow a tenner.
Alveole ($4.99)
I can’t quite figure out what is going on in this one. It claims to be a puzzle game about running, with much of the puzzle being in trying to determine how to run? Why to run? I’m not sure. You’re in a hamster wheel. It takes about a half hour to clear, and it’s obviously more of an odd art experiment than a game in the strictest sense. If you’re looking for something unusual today, this will certainly check that box.

There are a whole bunch of games in the list today, though there aren’t too many rare treats to be found. Shaun’s picks: Spiritfarer, Danmaku Unlimited 3, and Ninjin: Clash of Carrots. Heading on over to the outbox, there’s another lengthy list of stuff I don’t feel that strongly about. Do look into Wonder Boy: Asha in Monster World, though. And check both of those lists with your own eyes while you’re at it. Who knows what good stuff missed my quick scan? Maybe the best game ever! Such is the level of error I am known to make.
