Back in 2015 developer Valkyrie Entertainment in conjunction with publisher Sony Computer Entertainment launched an asynchronous multiplayer strategy game called GUNS UP! on the PlayStation 4, and then a couple of years later brought it to PC via Steam as well. GUNS UP! had you building up a base that would hopefully survive attacks from other players, as well as building up an army which you could send out to attack the bases of your opponents. This back-and-forth battling happened asynchronously, and GUNS UP! is a free to play game where you can spend real money on IAP to get additional XP to level up all your stuff. Is any of this sounding familiar? Yes, it sounds like Mobile Gaming 101, doesn’t it?
So it’s not too surprising that GUNS UP! wasn’t particularly well-received by PlayStation 4 owners or PC gamers on Steam. It also isn’t too surprising then that South Korean developer NHN has stepped in to adapt the game for mobile, where it probably should have launched in the first place. Here is a trailer for the newly-announced GUNS UP! Mobile.
Now, I know that these free to play base-building/attacking games aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, and I personally never found them compelling myself. However, I think it goes without saying that this style of asynchronous multiplayer game fits much better on the mobile platform, where you can quickly whip out your device and check on your base or launch an attack, than it does on a console or PC platform. The expected release date for GUNS UP! Mobile is October 13th and it’s available for pre-order on the App Store for iOS and Google Play Store for Android now.
