Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Some interesting games popped up in my scans this week, including a few that haven’t pinged on the ol’ radar in quite some time. I’ve gathered together a mix of old and new, hopefully leaving us with an entertaining list for you to look over as you eat your brunch bagel or what-have-you. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Card Crawl, Free This is an update, to be sure. I don’t know how interesting of an update it will be for existing owners, but it is an update. Basically, this and the other TinyTouchTales games that weren’t already free downloads have been adjusted to be so. If you already owned the game, you can restore your purchases and nothing changes. If you didn’t already own it, there’s a single IAP you can buy to make it like nothing has changed. Not a huge deal, but something I did want to address as I am a pretty big fan of this developer’s games.
FINAL FANTASY DIMENSIONS, Free Sorry for the slow start, friends. This isn’t a very big update either, but I’m including it here because it is so very rare for this game to get any kind of update. Seriously, the last update was about five years ago. It added support for iOS 9. That’s how long ago it was. This update adds in the ability to save your game data to the cloud, which is nice. It also fixes a few bugs and brings the game as up to date as an app that first released during Obama’s first term could reasonably be expected to be.
Jetpack Joyride, Free No, I promise it will get a little better soon. But not yet, you see. Because Jetpack Joyride is doing another event rerun, this time the Metal Slug event. This one has repeated enough times that you probably know the works by now. Marco, Tarma, Eri, Fio. The SV-001 Metal Slug tank. Some jetpacks patterned after the weapons from the game. Metal Slug vehicle skins and backgrounds. Nothing new in here, but if you haven’t picked this stuff up in a previous run of the event, here’s your chance.
MARVEL Realm of Champions, Free Okay, here we go. This one is alright. In the latest event for this relatively new game, President Peggy Carter enlists your aid in obtaining the power Red Tessaract. It’s a whole new World Quest that will put your team to the test. There’s a new Gear Set related to Red Guardian, a new weapon, a new weapon variant, a new environment to mess about in, and some new Alliance Events to test your mettle with. All that, plus bug fixes, balance adjustments, and various other improvements. Good, good. Nice warm-up, let’s keep it moving.
Injustice 2, Free Oh, this is another rare update. Not Final Fantasy Dimensions rare, but rare enough. Injustice 2 adds a new Gold Hero to its roster in the form of Vixen. She packs plenty of powers drawn from the animal kingdom and will make a potent partner for any team. This update also includes seven-star hero upgrades, so get ready to run the hamster wheel again to keep your team up to date. The cap on Player Account levels, character levels, and character ability levels has also been increased, up to a maximum of level 80. A new Solo Raid is incoming soon, and a whole bunch of bugs have been sent to the Phantom Zone. All in all, a major update for a game that could use more love.
Matchington Mansion, Free It’s the obligatory free-to-play matching puzzle game update for the week, and I’ve decided to moderately mix it up this time with a check-in on Matchington Mansion. The new Mesozoic Mansion Exhibition is the star of the show here, which arrives along with fifty brand new levels to play. There’s also a new room, the Undersea Suites P1. That’s a curious name for a room, if I may say so. This new update also includes some bug fixes, which we all enjoy. I don’t know, friends. The lack of Austin in this game really brings it down a notch for me. It’s like, No Austin No Life, you know? I know you all understand.
Disney Heroes: Battle Mode, Free Ha ha ha, well that is something. Nothing particularly Olympic-themed about this latest update to Disney Heroes, but they’ve gone and hung a gold medal on the app icon anyway. Why? Who knows? As for what is in this update, you’ve got two new heroes taking the proverbial field. There’s Fred Frederickson from Big Hero 6, who you’ll recall had a penchant for dressing up like a monster and seemed to have a pretty famous dad. We’ve also got Vinny Santorini from Atlantis, the demolition expert who excels at making things go boom. Not bad. Deep cuts, but not bad. Add in the requisite bug fixes and performance improvements, and that’s the update.
Asphalt Legends Unite, Free I probably already knew this, but Asphalt 9 Legends is celebrating its third anniversary, and this update has some goodies in tow towards that. There’s a new motorsport circuit set in Auckland, New Zealand, seven new cabriolets perfect for the summer season, some new events including the anniversary one, some rare goodies for the whales to chase in the latest Grand Prix, and preparations for a number of ESPORTS events that will be going on through the season. Cool stuff, but how interested will people be when they can play an Asphalt without the shenanigans on Apple Arcade? I guess we’ll see!
SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit, Speaking of Apple Arcade, let’s peek in on some of those. Here’s my favorite from the last week, powering up SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit a bit. The highlight is a new competitive daily mode called the Chummy Challenge. You race through a unique level and compete with the ghosts of other players, trying to make your way to the top of the leaderboard. Collect Chummy Challenge coins every day and you can trade them in for some nice rewards. This update also adds two more characters, Mermaidman and Barnacleboy, plus twelve new hats for SpongeBob. I’m going to give this the coveted UMMSotW award for this week because it tickles my fancy just right to do that.
Wonderbox: The Adventure Maker, More goodies have been added to the Wonderbox, available to be used in both Adventures and the Home Box. That content consists of the Goblin Raid Berry Bush and Wooden Stairs, the Castle Feud Cabinet, the Scorching Frontier Cactus and Music Door, and the Winter Keep Scrolls. There are also a number of UI and QoL improvements, like new sorting options, the ability to delete and duplicate adventures in the My Creations screen, and some new non-verbal communication abilities in Multiplayer. Not a bad little update, all told.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
