Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for June 9th, 2021. It’s the Wednesday before E3, and for Nintendo Switch news that may well make it one of the quietest days of the year. A few new releases to look at, the usual Super Smash Bros. Ultimate stuff, and a rather small list of sales. Well hey, the articles have been quite large of late. I’ll happily take a quieter day. Let’s see what’s here!
News
It’s a Flame War in the Next ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event
That time of the week again, my finest friends. It’s Wednesday, and that means we’re getting the announcement of the next weekend event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. I expect next week’s event to have some tie-in with something involving E3, but for now it’s business as usual. Kicking off on Friday and running for three days through the weekend, this Tournament features fighters who use fire in their attacks. Bowser Koopa, Mario, Captain Falcon, Roy, and perhaps a couple more. Only these characters may be used in the tournament. Flame on!
New Releases
Alba: A Wildlife Adventure ($19.99)
Another Apple Arcade game makes its way over the Switch, this time ustwo’s Alba: A Wildlife Adventure. Explore, and hopefully save, a Mediterranean island on your summer vacation in this relaxing adventure. Alba needs to gather volunteers to clean up the island and help the local wildlife. Basically, you just go around and help people with what they need. It’s a rather nice game, and this Switch version offers another way to own it beyond a subscription. That said, if you think you’re only going to play it once or twice, the Apple Arcade subscription is certainly the better value. I leave it in your hands to decide.
Paradox Error ($4.99)
What do you call it when you go to a physician who misdiagnoses you, then get a second opinion and they misdiagnose you in the same way? A Paradox Error. Ha! *slaps desk*
Ahem. Anyway, this is an extremely glitchy side-scrolling platformer. But wait, don’t run away just yet. It’s supposed to be glitchy! You have to take advantage of the glitches to proceed at times, in fact. It certainly seems clever, and if it makes good use of its gimmick all the way through I think this will make for a fine five dollar purchase. I’ve only tried a little of it so far, so I can’t say how well it holds over the course of the game. What I’ve tried is interesting, however.
Pocket Warriors ($12.00)
Not much hope digging up information with a title that generic, I’m afraid. Well, let’s see what I can do. This appears to be a rather rough 3D action-adventure game with animal characters. It has a Story mode, a Survival mode, and a local multiplayer PvP mode for up to four players. This is the developer’s first Switch release, as near as I can tell. On the official webpage, they call this a remake of an existing game but I don’t think it’s any of the Pocket Warriors games I’m familiar with. I’ll have to investigate further on this one. I’ll let you know if it turns out to be something cool.
Sales
(North American eShop, US Prices)
A short list, but one rather devoid of usual suspects. I’d say the pick of the day is Project Highrise, but it’s a short enough list that I’m sure you can sift through it on your own to see what strikes your fancy. Not so short is the expiring list. The Dragon Quest sales are finishing up, Ninja Gaiden‘s pre-launch discount is coming to a close, and a number of interesting indies like A Robot Named Fight are going back to their regular prices. Have at it, friends.
