Late last week we reported how the Call of Duty social accounts were all teasing that ’80s action heroes would be arriving in the current crop of Call of Duty games on May 20th. That current crop includes Call of Duty: Mobile, Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War, and Call of Duty: Warzone. There were lots of hints that the ’80s action heroes in question would be John Rambo from the Rambo series of films and John McClane from the Die Hard series. As we all know Rambo is synonymous with actor Sylvester Stallone, and John McClane is played by actor Bruce Willis. Well, keep that in mind as you watch the latest trailer for this ’80s action heroes bonanza coming to the Call of Duty games posted on the official Call of Duty YouTube account, followed by a different teaser posted to the Call of Duty: Mobile YouTube account.
As both trailers show, Rambo and the likeness of Sylvester Stallone are on display prominently, although it certainly doesn’t sound like they secured the rights to his voice. What’s strange though is that when it comes to Die Hard, there is no sign of the actual John McClane, there’s only references to some of the iconic scenes and phrases from the Die Hard movies. Could it be that Call of Duty is leaning this hard into both of these movie franchises, but somehow wasn’t able to obtain the rights to Bruce Willis’s likeness as John McClane? Maybe this sort of thing doesn’t matter to most people, but it sure strikes me as odd. Whatever the case the big ’80s Action Heroes event will kick off in all the Call of Duty games this Thursday, May 20th at 5pm Pacific Time.
