Before Genshin Impact (Free), miHoYo was mostly known for Honkai Impact 3rd which has also been getting updated often with new content. Today, the company revealed a global release for otome adventure game Tears of Themis. I’ve reviewed a few otome games in our SwitchArcade roundups like the Collar x Malice and Code Realize games. If you’re not familiar with the genre, otome games are usually story-driven experiences that target women and there have been quite a few releasing on all platforms in the West in recent years with the more popular ones being previously on PS Vita and now on Nintendo Switch. Tears of Themis originally debuted in China last year as revealed by Niko Partners’ Daniel Ahmad and it is getting a global release in the future with pre-registrations for the closed beta now live. Tears of Themis features some big voice actors from Japan as well like Jun Fukuyama. Watch the Tears of Themis trailer with Japanese voiceovers below:
Tears of Themis blends romance, detective work, and more as you take on the role of a new attorney. There are also interactive courtroom trials. The Tears of Themis English closed beta will take place from May 8th until May 18th. Closed beta sign-ups are now live until May 6th here on the official website. With the reveal of the global release, miHoYo’s website for Tears of Themis has also gone live with character profiles and some voice samples across different languages. As of now, a release window for Tears of Themis hasn’t been announced but it will be out on iOS and Android in the future. If you’d like to sample miHoYo’s excellent Genshin Impact before Tears of Themis is out, you can download it here on the App Store and here on Google Play for free. We featured Genshin Impact as our Game of the Week when it released and awarded it our 2020 Game of the Year. What is your favourite otome game?
