Last month developer Magic Design Studios celebrated the two-year anniversary of launching their debut title Unruly Heroes on consoles and PC, a game that was inspired by the Chinese literary classic Journey to the West and whose main gimmick features four different heroes, each with unique abilities, that you can switch between on the fly in order to solve puzzles, fight enemies, and progress through the game. While Unruly Heroes was pretty well-received from a mechanical standpoint for being a good platformer, by far its most standout feature was its jaw-dropping visual style. Many of the folks who make up Magic Design Studios are former Ubisoft employees and have worked on a number of noteworthy franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Prince of Persia, but perhaps most notably the Rayman Origins and Legends games. You can instantly see the connection to those with the incredible animations and gorgeous environments in the launch trailer for the console and PC version of Unruly Heroes below.
Today, in conjunction with publisher Perfect World Games, Magic Design Studios has announced that Unruly Heroes will also be arriving on iOS and Android devices next month. Due to its emphasis on four playable characters, one of the big features of the game on console and PC was online multiplayer, and while it sounds like that won’t make it into the mobile release initially the developers do hope to add it in via a future update. One feature the mobile version does include that I’m sure will make a lot of people happy is physical controller support, and with the Android version specifically there will be support for super high framerates for devices that have it. Unruly Heroes will be launching on iOS and Android on March 18th at a price of $1.99 and I’m super excited for it.
