‘Star Wars KOTOR 2’ Now Available on iOS and Confirmed to Work with the Restored Content Mod

TouchArcade Rating:

Just last week we learned that Aspyr media would be bringing the classic Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic: The Sith Lords aka KOTOR 2 to iOS and Android devices this week, which I explained at the time was something we’d been waiting half a decade for. Given how fantastic an experience playing through the original KOTOR on mobile was, being able to do the same with the sequel was an exciting prospect indeed. While it’s a hotly debated topic as to which game is the superior game, I think everyone can agree that both KOTOR games are downright fantastic in their own rights and being able to tote both of them around in your pocket is a gift to be appreciated.

However, KOTOR 2 was pretty famously rushed to completion to make a holiday 2004 release, and over the years it has come out that a lot of content ended up on the cutting room floor rather than making it into the game. The community behind KOTOR 2 has worked diligently since the game’s release a decade and a half ago to track down much of that cut content inside of the game’s files and restore it by way of unofficial mods. One of the most complete and well-known of those mods is called TSLRCM, or The Sith Lords Restored Content Modification.

WELL, one of the developers behind that mod has posted a mobile version for the just-released iOS and Android versions of KOTOR 2. Now, this is the part where I tell you that I don’t want to be responsible for anything that might happen by you downloading some random file onto the internet and installing it onto your device, so everything I’m about to explain is done at your own risk should you want to try it yourself. That said, the person posting the mobile mod files, zbyl2, is confirmed as one of the folks who helped create the original TSLRCM mod for PC, and I’ve personally done all of this myself with no issues, so I’m fairly confident everything is on the up and up. Still, CYA and all that. Right, moving on.

All you’ll need to do is visit this post on the website Deadly Stream on your desktop computer, click the “Download This File" button on the right, and follow the instructions in the post. On iOS you’ll need to connect your device to iTunes and use the File Sharing functionality to add the extra content files to the game. On Android, well, I guess you just add files to it willy nilly because there are no rules on Android, and that’s the way I like it. Ok I’m just talking nonsense now, but trust me the whole process is extremely simple and is explained in the post on Deadly Stream. Some folks in our forums have also added the mod to the mobile version, so if you run into any issues feel free to ask for assistance and I’m sure someone will be able to help you out.

Now, the rumor going around is that zbyl2 is one of the developers who worked on the mobile port of KOTOR 2, which would make a lot of sense given how this mod is so readily available on day one of the game’s release. I was pretty stoked just to have the vanilla version on my iPhone, but being able to restore all of this content using a mod that has been worked on and polished so well over the course of the last decade is truly a treat. If you’re curious on what all has been restored in this mod, take a look at this thread on Deadly Stream posted by one of the other main people behind the TSLRCM patch, Stoney. Now, if somebody could just freeze time for me I have several hundred hours of KOTOR and KOTOR 2 I’d like to play through, thank you very much.

Special shout out to V Kuolema and Metalcasket in our forums for drawing attention to this!
