SwitchArcade Round-Up: More Nintendo eShop Black Friday Sales, ‘Mad Tower Tycoon’ and Today’s Other New Releases and News

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for November 25th, 2020. Didn’t find enough to buy in yesterday’s list of more than six hundred Black Friday sales? Well guess what, pal: I’ve got over a hundred more for you today. No wallet escapes alive. That’s the deal. We’ve also got five new releases to check out, with at least a couple of them worth your attention. I even found room for some news today, as I will never ever miss a chance to include Christopher Lambert in my articles. Let’s go!

Check Out the Klassic MK Movie Skin Pack Comes to ‘Mortal Kombat 11’

Okay look, they did say that last version was the ultimate one or what-have-you. But if there were ever a reason to ask you to put down a little more money, it has got to be Christopher Lambert. The Klassic MK Movie Skin Pack is now available for purchase in Mortal Kombat 11 for $5.99, and it brings not only the likenesses of Lambert (Raiden), Linden Ashby (Johnny Cage), and Bridgette Wilson (Sonya Blade) to the game but also their voices. You can see and hear them in action in the trailer above, but be warned that there is some blood and gore in there that could get you in trouble if your grandmother is watching over your shoulder. It’s a kick to watch even if WB Games didn’t splash out for the genuine Immortals tune to go with it.

Hold on to Your Hats, the Next ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event is Coming

Because of the holidays in various countries, this week is a bit of a weird one in terms of releases and sales. Still, that doesn’t stop the usual Wednesday announcement of the next event in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This time around, it’s a tournament event where only fighters with hats or helmets can participate. Don’t worry, it’s a surprisingly broad category. The event kicks off on Friday and runs the usual three days through the weekend.

New Releases

Mad Tower Tycoon ($29.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

If you only get one Sim/Yoot Tower-inspired building development simulation game for your Switch, make it Project Highrise. But if you get a second one, it should be Mad Tower Tycoon. This is a slightly more simplified take on the idea, but there are still plenty of variables to deal with. You need to be especially mindful of foot traffic, as poor planning with your elevators and stairs will lead to a lot of upset people waiting around. There are lots of neat random events that you’ll have to deal with, and the general tone is a bit lighter and more fun than some other games in this genre. We may have a review of this one if I have the time to tackle it.

Out of Space: Couch Edition ($9.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

As soon as I saw the name of the developer on this one, I knew I would like it. It comes from Behold Studios, the people behind Chroma Squad and Knights of Pen & Paper, and it has their brand of humor all over it. Living with people can be tough, and I’d imagine living with people in space is even harder. That’s just what you have to do in Out of Space, though. Create a comfortable, habitable space to live, fend off alien invasions using a mop, argue over furniture placement, and try to balance the budget as you do all of that. Reasonably fun in single-player, but it’s clearly meant as a multiplayer thing and it really shines under those conditions. If you can get enough people for a four-player game, you’ll have found your new Overcooked for the next while. The only bummer is that the multiplayer is local-only, so if you don’t have any people in your immediate vicinity the game loses a lot of its power.

My Aunt is a Witch ($9.99)

This visual novel from Sometimes You presents a wild scenario that you will never guess in a million years! Oh, you read the title? Hunh, darn. The story follows a kid named Thomas whose father remarries, bringing a woman into their lives that doesn’t seem to like her new stepson much. Thomas ends up visiting his aunt who hasn’t seen in years, and it turns out that she’s a witch! Ha, what a world. She even has a talking cat! There are plenty of ways for Thomas to get into trouble in his new home, but he’s bound and determined to harness the power of magic and be the best apprentice he can be. Wow, a visual novel that isn’t about smooching? What are things coming to?

Strike Force 2 – Terrorist Hunt ($17.99)

The developer behind Beyond Enemy Lines tries its hand at a totally different concept. Oh wait, no. This is basically the same concept. Hunt down terrorists and rescue a lost agent in a tropical location. Apparently their leader is a former German Secret Service agent? Collect an assortment of guns and use them on most everything that moves. I don’t think this developer has put out a decent game on the Switch yet, and this one will likely maintain that streak.

Dungeon Solver ($3.99)

QUByte and Minimol are back again with another low-cost game that offers more fun for your buck than you might expect. This is kind of a minimalized take on the dungeon crawler where you make your way through 60 hand-crafted floors using your party of heroes. Not the most involved of affairs, but it’s an amusing enough way to pass the time. It reminds me of a board game, but not one of those super-great board games that everyone wants to play. It’s more like one of those weird board games you find at the back of the shelf in a local hobby store that you play a few times before going back to the really good ones. And for a few bucks, that’s enough.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

I was pretty sure I had missed some of the Black Friday sales in yesterday’s list, so after getting some sleep last night I woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed to find as many of the rest as I could. And hey, I found a lot! Some really great ones, too. How did I miss them yesterday? I seriously missed Dragon Quest Builders? Shame on me. SHAMES FOR SHAMES. But the sales are here now, friends. Do have a good look.
