‘The Witcher: Monster Slayer’ is ‘Pokemon GO’ for The Witcher Series, Coming to iOS and Android Soon

You know, being in the middle of a pandemic with a limited access to being out and about in public places might not be the best time to launch a real-world augmented reality mobile game, but other players in the space like Pokemon GO and Minecraft Earth have spent the majority of 2020 evolving their games into experiences that are more conducive to playing at home. And hey, it seems to be working, seeing as Pokemon GO had its most lucrative half-year ever during the first six months of 2020. So maybe it’s not so crazy that CD Projekt Red and their in-house studio Spokko Games are hopping onto the AR game train with a title that they’ve just announced today called The Witcher: Monster Slayer. Here’s the teaser trailer.

The official description for the game states: “The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a location-based augmented-reality RPG that challenges you to become a professional monster hunter. Venture out into the world around you and use your mobile device to track witcher-world monsters that roam close-by. Track these monsters and prepare for combat using time of day, weather conditions, and your witcher knowledge to gain an advantage on your quest to becoming an elite monster slayer." I think we all pretty much understand what this game is about, and for fans of The Witcher (of which there are many thanks to the success of The Witcher 3 and that hunky Henry Cavill TV show) this seems like a cool way to extend that fandom into your everyday life. The game is said to be launching “soon" and you can find more info over on the official website.
