SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Donkey Kong Country’ Coming to Switch Online, ‘Ys Origin’ Arriving Later This Year, and the Latest Sales

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for July 8th, 2020. It’s a bit of a light one today as we don’t have any new releases to check out. My review queue is empty at the moment as well. So it’s really just a bit of news to catch up on, plus the incoming and outgoing sales for the day. Tomorrow will be a big one, so take a little breather today and get ready for the battles ahead. Let’s go!

‘Donkey Kong Country’ and More Come to Switch Online on July 15th

Wow, less than two months since the last drop for Switch Online and we’re already getting more? Nintendo, you’re spoiling us. The next batch of retro games will hit the service next week on July 15th, and it includes one particular game that many people have been vigorously asking for. Yes, that’s right: Natsume Championship Wrestling for the Super NES! Geez, finally. In addition to that heavy hitter, the Super NES app will receive some minor release called Donkey Kong Country that was made by a weird British developer. On the NES side of things, we’ve got The Immortal. Originally developed by Will Harvey and published by Electronic Arts, it’s now under the umbrella of Piko Interactive. It’s an isometric adventure game with RPG elements, and a lot of people enjoyed it back in the day. Japanese Switch Online subscribers will also get Donkey Kong Country alongside Shin Megami Tensei and Gun-Dec, which is the Japanese version of Vice: Project Doom.

‘Ys Origin’ Comes to Switch Later This Year

When it comes to action-RPGs, it’s really hard to beat the amazing gameplay of the Ys series from Falcom. Switch players have had the excellent Ys 8 for a while now, and it was recently announced that Ys 9 would also be coming to the platform. But how about some of the older games? Good news, friends. Dotemu has given the word that it will be bringing Ys Origin to the Switch later this year. It will be available digitally of course, with a spiffy physical edition coming courtesy of Limited Run Games. This is one of the few games with the Ys name that doesn’t star Adol, instead focusing on three different characters and their adventures in the setting of the first two Ys games. I have trouble deciding whether this or Ys Oath in Felghana is my favorite game in the series, so you can bet I’ll be excited to have this on my Switch.

This Week’s ‘Super Smash Bros.’ Event Celebrates ‘Octopath Traveler’

It hasn’t been a great week for the Smash Bros. community, but the game itself marches on. This time around, the weekend event celebrates the second anniversary of Square Enix’s Octopath Traveler. Four new spirits will be added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, each one featuring two of the eight main characters from Octopath Traveler. For the duration of the event, you’ll earn more SP than usual by defeating these spirits. As always, the event kicks off on Friday and will run for three days.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

Depending on your tastes, there may be some really nice sales for you here. Racing fans in particular will find some deep discounts on a variety of titles including V-Rally 4, TT Isle of Man, WRC 8, and more. A couple of tennis games are also marked down quite substantially. There a lot of ending sales as well, so take a careful look through that list. Idea Factory’s games like Fairy Fencer F and Mary Skelter 2 don’t go on sale all that often, and Arc System Works has a number of fun titles discounted that don’t pop up very frequently either. Buy what you must!

That’s all for today, friends. It’s rare to have no new releases on any given day, but such is how things went this week. Luckily, that will not be an issue tomorrow. We’ll have summaries of all the big new releases, along with whatever sales come along. I hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
