Apple recently got back into releasing one new Apple Arcade game a week. Last week, Apple announced and then released SpongeBob: Patty Pursuit on the service. This week sees no new addition but one of the better games on the service getting a major update. Oceanhorn from Cornfox remains one of the nicer games I’ve played on iOS that I ended up triple dipping on. Oceanhorn 2 has now been upgraded with a ton of enhancements and new content with the Oceanhorn 2 Golden Edition update that just went live on Apple Arcade worldwide. In addition to new content, this update also sports improvements to the interface, 60fps support on modern devices, and a lot more. It is a big download as expected since it feels like a rework more or less to a great existing game. Watch the original game trailer below:
The expansion includes the Criminal Hunt and Shield of Chronos expansions, an expanded ending with new scenes, an optional 60fps mode, new water simulation, new spoken dialogue, and new music as highlights. If you haven’t checked it out yet on the service yet, now is a great time to try Oceanhorn 2. Check it out on the App Store here if you are an active Apple Arcade subscriber. For all other Apple Arcade related things, check out our dedicated Apple Arcade forum for discussion on the service and every game included here. Did you enjoy the last few additions to the service?
Unless this game gets unbundled from Apple Arcade, I won’t be playing it. Games of this quality should have a premium release, not be tied behind a recurring paywall.
So pay $5 for a month, turn off recurring Payments.... gives you a month to beat the game... problem solved. And cheaper than the premium price the first game. I’m a premium guy as well, but $5 a month to play a bunch of games, meh.... not bad. I just do it a month every once in a while if I see something interesting. And right now your missing a heck of a game that you could play for $5
So you don’t watch tv or movies on Netflix then?
At some point the game will get a full release on systems. I imagine it’s on I way to the Switch in future. My assumption with game pass-like subs is that Apple and Microsoft pay a lump sum to licence the game with additional per-download royalties. This gives the devs a guaranteed value of income to then continue work on the game before exclusivity ends and they can publish.
That said there are some top games on Apple Arcade. Butter Royale is fantastic.
I hate you iOS!, I hate you Apple Arcade! :(
I thought the cut scenes were the weakest part of the original release version. A significant number of them just seemed rushed and/or poorly edited, which didn't help enhance the story aspect of the game.
