SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Streets of Rage 4’ Coming April 30th, ‘Legends of Amberland’ and Today’s Other New Releases, the Latest Sales, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 20th, 2020. In today’s edition, we’ve got a few news items about upcoming releases, summaries of four brand-new games that hit the eShop today, and sales a-plenty to check out. It’s been a mildly quiet couple of weeks in terms of new releases, but things are going to start heating up again in a hurry, friends. Let’s get to today’s business!

News

Heck Yeah, ‘Streets of Rage 4’ is Coming April 30th

After lots of confusion regarding some premature eShop listings, the upcoming DotEmu-published sequel to SEGA’s classic beat-em-up franchise finally has a real, official release date: April 30th. Wow, that’s next week! The game looks incredible and I really can’t wait to dive into it. The price is just $24.99 and given everything we’ve seen about the game’s content, I think that’s a heck of a deal. We’ll have a full review of the game once it’s out, but for now feel free to enjoy another trailer, this time showing off the newly-announced Battle Mode.

Pre-Order ‘Trials of Mana’, Get 70% Discount on ‘Collection of Mana’

One of the nice things about the modern era is that digital shops generally know what you do or don’t own, allowing publishers to make special deals based on such things. Here’s a nice one. The Trials of Mana remake is hitting later this week, Friday to be exact, and those who choose to pre-order the digital version of the game on the eShop will be given a cool incentive to catch up on the roots of the series. Those who pre-order the game will be treated to a 70% discount on Collection of Mana, which includes Final Fantasy Adventure, Secret of Mana, and the original Super NES version of Trials of Mana. That brings the price down to $11.99 from $39.99, a steal of a deal for three very good action-RPGs.

‘Kingdom Two Crowns’ Gets ‘Bloodstained’ Crossover Expansion

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a pretty cool game even if it runs about as well as a hog-tied mule on the Switch. Kingdom Two Crowns is a pretty cool game that runs just fine on the Switch. But how do they mix together? We’re going to find out. A free update for Kingdom Two Crowns is set to hit on April 28th, adding a new set of content called Dead Lands to the game. It will allow you to switch between four new monarchs, each one a character from Bloodstained. There are plenty of other Bloodstained-themed bits in the update, so make sure to check it out once it arrives.

New Releases

Legends of Amberland: The Forgotten Crown ($19.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Whoa, do you hear that? Is that the “Happy Shaun" klaxon sounding? I think it is! Friends, I know this one doesn’t look like much in the screenshots, but if you’re a fan of good old dungeon-crawlers like Might & Magic and The Bard’s Tale and would like something along those lines, you’ll get a real kick out of Legends of Amberland. It’s a bit friendlier than those games in many ways and it’s perhaps a bit light when it comes to the RPG mechanics, but it sure does scratch the itch nicely. You can tell this was put together by a big fan of this sub-genre. A great chaser for Operencia if you’re already finished with that one.

OMG Police – Car Chase TV Simulator ($4.99)

This has the distinct flavor of “free-to-play mobile game" about it, but as far as I can tell this is indeed a native Switch game. You’re basically running away from the police in two different locations, trying to score as much cash as you can before your inevitable defeat. You can use that money to buy a new car, with 20 different vehicles ultimately available. It’s got that pick-up-and-play appeal that a lot of good mobile games have, and while it feels like it’s going to get repetitive after a while, the price is quite reasonable for what you get.

Shadows ($7.99)

I think the sequel to this one already hit the Switch several months ago, but here’s the first installment for those who were looking for it. It’s one of those low-budget horror games where you wander around a relatively simple 3D environment, solving puzzles and getting the occasional jump-scare to keep you on your toes. Clearly this did well enough on other platforms to get a sequel, so perhaps it will find an audience on the Switch as well. I will not be in that audience.

Car Trader Simulator ($8.99)

Yes, it’s another one of these simulator games from Ultimate. There’s a fair bit of overlap here with some of their other releases, as you’ll have to buy and repair cars to resell them and try to make a profit. It doesn’t look like you get as hands-on with the repairs here as you do in some other games, so it’s really all about the buying and selling. Which makes a lot of sense, given the title of the game. Anyway, expect a cumbersome interface and a fairly repetitive gameplay loop that nevertheless pulls in many a player.

Sales

There are a few things worth highlighting in today’s list. First of all, 2K Games is having another sale. Yeah, the same old stuff, but I’m looking forward to the future where these sales have stuff like Bioshock and Borderlands in them. Cuphead is celebrating its one-year anniversary on the Switch with a nice 25% discount. Dead Cells is also having a sale, though I’m not sure if there’s any reason behind it. Lots of stuff in the outbox, including the latest Ubisoft and Devolver Digital sales, ToeJam & Earl, and the Disney Classic Games set. Choose carefully!
