SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Animal Crossing’ Updates, ‘GrimValor’, ‘Disaster Report 4’, and Today’s Other New Releases, the Latest Sales Including SEGA Games and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for April 7th, 2020. In today’s article, we’ve got a little slice of news, a look at all of today’s new releases, and a nice list of sales to sift through. A bit of a quiet one today, but still plenty of games to consider picking up. While I was hoping to have one or two reviews ready today, they need just a little more time in the oven. At any rate, let’s have a look at all that’s good!

News

Nintendo Proves Itself a Good Egg With ‘Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ Update

You have to give Nintendo credit with how it’s handling Animal Crossing: New Horizons. It’s turning out updates almost as fast as issues crop up, and the latest update not only fixes bugs but directly addresses a player complaint. Specifically, the drop rate of some of the Bunny Day Eggs has been reduced. If you’re tired of fishing up Water Eggs instead of fish, this will be good news. The increased drop rate will return on Bunny Day, which is April 12th, so don’t worry that you’ll be left out in the cold. For those keeping track of version numbers, this is 1.1.4. Now go out and enjoy catching some actual fish!

New Releases

GrimValor ($12.99)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Most TouchArcade readers will be quite familiar with GrimValor, the excellent action-adventure game from many of the same folks that worked on Swordigo. I was a huge fan of the mobile original, and after spending some time with on my Switch, I’m a fan of this port as well. Now, if you finished the game on your phone inside and out, you won’t find anything new here, but if you missed out on it or just want an excuse to run through it all again, this is a great way to experience it. I’ll be doing a review of this one soon, but I can already say I recommend it.

Disaster Report 4: Summer Memories ($59.99)

Provided you caught yesterday’s SwitchArcade Round-Up, you already know my feelings on this game. It’s a heavily-flawed, unusual experience ported quite horribly to the Switch hardware. A huge earthquake hits while you’re on a trip to the city, and you have to survive in the aftermath. The hits keep on coming, but outside of the occasional random near-unavoidable death, the game is less about survival and more about connecting with a wide cast of odd characters and helping them out. On its own, the game is okay and certainly has a nice B-rank vibe to it, but the Switch port suffers from frequent, lengthy load times and absolutely devastating framerate issues. Perhaps a game worth playing, but I sure wouldn’t recommend doing it on the Switch.

12 Labours of Hercules II: The Cretan Bull ($7.99)

If you’ve played the original 12 Labours of Hercules, you’ll know what to expect in this sequel. Gather resources, use said resources to help build a road, and do it all before the timer runs out. Throw in the occasional boss battle and a three-star ranking system, and that’s pretty much the lot. This series has a lot of fans thanks to its somewhat relaxing yet engaging gameplay, and I suspect we’ll be seeing the rest of the installments trickle out on the Switch over time. Not my bag of nachos, but if it’s yours? Here you go.

Sales

(North American eShop, US Prices)

If you’ve been waiting for a chance to stock up on SEGA games, are you in luck today! Pretty much every SEGA-published game is on sale right now, including the whole line of SEGA AGES, the rarely-discounted SEGA Genesis Classics set, Puyo Puyo Tetris, Two Point Hospital, and many more. Apart from SEGA stuff, there are other great games like Minit, Trine, and Vampyr available at nice prices. Lots of expiring sales as well, but to be honest they’re mostly games that are discounted at least once a month. Buy them if you think you’ll play them straight away, otherwise feel free to wait until the next sale.

I hope you all have a good Tuesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
