About a month ago we took a look at the latest progress of Space Grunts 2 from developer Orange Pixel, a sequel to the original Space Grunts which released way back in early 2016. The concept of the original Space Grunts was to create a tactical turn-based strategy roguelike but with a much brisker pace than the genre is typically known for, and Orange Pixel definitely succeeded in that regard with the first game. For the sequel they’re adding in a card-based mechanic which lends itself well to the turn-based nature, but doesn’t disrupt the fast pace the game is shooting for. Here’s a new hands-on demo from Orange Pixel showcasing Space Grunts 2 on an iPad.
I really enjoyed the original Space Grunts myself, and we gave it a strong recommendation in our review when it released. It looks like Space Grunts 2 will live up to that legacy while making a lot of improvements along the way. I really like the card-based interface addition. Orange Pixel says that there’s still some polishing and balancing to do over the course of the next few weeks, but Space Grunts 2 shouldn’t be too far off from release. In the meantime you can find out more about the game as well as some discussion in our forums.
