Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. Well, my main iPhone died late last week. That means I got a shiny new one, but it also means that a lot of my usual tricks and techniques are yet to be properly set up. Nevertheless, I think I found a good batch of updates to check out. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper or by participating in the TouchArcade forums. This weekly summary is just here to fill you in on the things you might have missed. Let’s go for it!
Super Crate Box - GameClub, Free Full disclosure: I was brought in by GameClub to assist with some of the historical content featured in their main app, and they are of course now the publisher of this game on iOS. But let’s be realistic, I would have written about this game getting updated after more than seven years in any case. Not only does this update make the game playable on modern devices and new displays, it also adds in some MFi controller support so that you can get your crate on with buttons! Nice.
Jetpack Joyride, Free One of many Halloween updates in today’s article. Jetpack Joyride is no stranger to Halloween events, and it’s bringing a few things out of the vault again for this year’s celebrations. Be sure to check out the new Scary Arm Machine, which is frankly terrifying. There’s also a Bleeding Heart jetpack, and a Demon Wings jetpack. Choose the one that represents Halloween in the way you prefer. You have to play to win these rewards, however, so get on it already. Halloween is almost here!
MARVEL Future Fight, Free This new update to Marvel Future Fight brings, as usual, an assortment of new characters and uniforms to collect. Doctor Voodoo makes a long overdue entry into the game, and new characters Aero and Sword Master have come with him. There are also new uniforms for Scarlet Witch, Vision, Quicksilver, Rogue, Sabretooth, Luna Snow, Crescent, and White Fox. Vision has received some additional updates, and Quicksilver now has Tier-3 Advancement available. Finally, there’s a new stage and mission in the Dimensional Mission section, and a new World Boss Ultimate battle with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver. But no Spider-Mans, so you know how that goes.
ANOTHER EDEN, Free And here’s the latest drop of content for Another Eden, the rather enjoyable free-to-play RPG that seems to remain ever under the radar. There’s a new episode called The Celestial Tower and the Shadow Witch, and it brings some new background music with it. Two new characters, Radica and Ilulu, can now be encountered, and some new areas and a new dungeon have been added. Aside from that, it’s the usual bug fixes and text adjustments.
Transformers: Earth Wars, Free You wouldn’t expect giant alien robots and a group of weird American counter-terrorist soldiers to go together like peanut butter and jam, but corporate ownership can make for odd bedfellows at times. The G.I. Joe gang have come to Transformers: Earth Wars, bringing in special G.I. Joe versions of Hound and Soundwave’s vehicle forms. Duke and Cobra Commander make appearances in the story, and this is apparently just the first of what will be an on-going cross-over in the game. Well, now I know. And knowing is half the battle, and also grounds for a coveted UMMSotW award. Strange how that works.
Toon Blast, Free A typical Toon Blast update in every single way, and it doesn’t even bother to make the easy tie-in to Halloween. Nope, the pretense behind this set of 50 new levels has something to do with musical instruments and a ride down a canal in a boat. Your guess is as good as mine, but it means there are a bunch of new levels for those who can’t seem to get enough of these blasted toons.
Rise of Kingdoms, Free It’s a Halloween event update. Spooky Halloween, it’s called. I like that they don’t dance around it and just go for it. There are a bunch of events and rewards going on in the game to celebrate the season, including a special limited-time theme. This update also includes some improvements to Alliance functions, some UI tweaks, new background music, and a few other little adjustments. But really though, it’s mostly about the Halloween stuff. So get out there and level up your Pumpkin Lantern, collect and use Jack O’Lanterns, and defeat the Evil Witch. You’ve only got a few more days to do it, so don’t drag your feet.
Merge Dragons!, Free Merge Dragons remains as popular as ever, and like most long-running free-to-play games it really depends on holidays to drive events. That means… Halloween dragons. Heck. Yes. Or it should, but there are no Halloween dragons in here. Just a new season-appropriate chain and a bit of set dressing. There are also some bug fixes in here, but I’m not going to lie: pre-tty disappointed I’m not getting Halloween dragons. Maybe next year.
AFK Arena, Free Unfortunately, Away From Keyboard Arena probably won’t grant my Halloween dragon wish. But what it does have is a new Lightbearer hero named Rigby the Brewmaster. Sounds like the kind of person you’d want in your party and at your party, if you ask me. Ha. There’s a new campaign chapter called Mycosprout Glade for you to battle through, and some serious work has gone into adjusting the difficulty of various stages based on player feedback. If you got stuck somewhere before, you may want to give it another go now.
Brawl Stars, Free Let’s wrap things up with a look at the latest update to Supercell’s Brawl Stars. And it is, of course, a Halloween update. They call it Brawl-o-ween, which doesn’t fit very well but isn’t egregious. I’ll allow it. It offers a new temporary game mode called Graveyard Shift, a new environment in the form of Mortis Mortuary, and some special skins that are only available during the Brawl-o-ween season. There’s also a new brawler named Emz that you can unlock in the Trophy Road. There are a few other odds and ends here, but I’ll allow those interested to seek that stuff out on their own.
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
