Way back in April of last year Konami announced the mobile-exclusive Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls, a game that would let you play as an assortment of the iconic Vampire Hunters from throughout the series and take on enemies and bosses that have also been taken from across the span of classic Castlevania games. At that time it had only been confirmed for release in Japan, but at the beginning of the year Konami confirmed their intention to release Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls worldwide at some point in 2019. Well over the weekend we got one step closer to that happening as the game is now soft-launched in the Canadian App Store. Here’s the most recent trailer for Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls.
If you were worried about a Castlevania game working well on touchscreens, first let me say I don’t blame you, but second let me tell you that it appears those worries are unfounded. Our own Shaun Musgrave took Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls for a test drive during Tokyo Game Show last week and was quite pleased with the overall package. And those adventurous players in our forums who have taken the soft-launched version for a spin have also said good things about the controls and the game itself. While I think any sane person would love to have a new full-blown Castlevania title, it seems this free to play mashup version for mobile is actually quite enjoyable. If you have a Canadian App Store account you can check it out for yourself using this link here, otherwise I’d imagine the full global launch won’t be too far off anyway.
