SwitchArcade Round-Up: ‘Hollow Knight’ Gets Physical, ‘StarTropics’ and ‘Kid Icarus’ Come to Switch Online, the Amazing Puzzler ‘Baba Is You’ Releases, and More

Hello gentle readers, and welcome to the SwitchArcade Round-Up for March 13th, 2019. It’s a week like any other, except that tomorrow is of course White Day here in Japan. What is White Day? Well, on Valentine’s Day in Japan, women give chocolates to men. White Day is when men reciprocate, usually to the tune of about three times more? That figure isn’t exact. Why am I talking about this? Because I didn’t have time to write any reviews as I had to do some shopping for Mrs. Musgrave. Ha ha, marital harmony! But I do have some cool Switch news, a summary of today’s new release, and a big bounty of sales for you to check out. Let’s enjoy it!

The March ‘Nintendo Switch Online’ Games are Now Available

Arriving a little ahead of the intended release date, the March update for the Nintendo Switch Online app became available yesterday. It includes two new additions to the NES line-up in the form of Kid Icarus and StarTropics, both of which are excellent games with a good bit of meat on their bones. There are also two new SP versions of previously-released games. Kirby’s Adventure SP gives you all the benefits of a 100% cleared file, including access to the extra mode and sound test. Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link SP starts you at the beginning of the game with maxed out experience levels and a full list of magic. You still have to hunt down the items, though. Japan’s update doesn’t include StarTropics as it was never released there, but it does include Fire Emblem and Yie Ar Kung Fu. As usual, you can and should download and use both apps for maximum pleasure.

‘Hollow Knight’ Gets a Physical Release After All Via Fangamer

The much-loved Hollow Knight was set for a physical release before plans fell through. Luckily, it seems like that wasn’t the end of the idea. With some support from Fangamer, Team Cherry will be bringing out a standard and collector’s edition of the game to various retailers. Both editions include the case, the game card, a manual, and a map. The collector’s edition also throws in a special box, a gold foil art print set, a brooch with a stand, a comic book, and a cleaning cloth. The standard edition will be found in a lot of places, but if you want that collector’s edition, you’ll have to order it from Fangamer.

This Week’s ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’ Event is All About the Green

Well, as is the case every week around this time, the new Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Spirit Board event has been announced. This time, the title is “Green is the New Black", and the focus is appropriately enough on green spirits. Any theme that brings together Yoshi, Blanka, the Metroid Queen, Luigi, and Celebi is sure to be an odd one. Anyway, when the event kicks off this weekend, green spirits will appear more often. Turn them into a fine green mist to earn extra gold. Green gets you green, after all.

New Releases

Baba Is You ($15.00)

SwitchArcade Highlight!

Sometimes you see a game that surprises you with its cleverness, and that is Baba Is You. This is a rather simple-looking puzzle game in the Sokoban style, where you have to push blocks around to achieve a goal. But wait, instead of pushing around simple crates, you’re actually pushing around words. Word blocks that are placed next to each other will form rules, so if you swap the ‘Baba’ in ‘Baba Is You’ with ‘Wall’, you will now be controlling the wall instead of Baba. There are 200 stages, and that results in a very beefy experience that will have you constantly reconsidering how to solve things. Simply an amazing game. I don’t know if I’ll have time to whip together a full review, but you can consider this game to have my highest recommendation.

Sales

Okay, a lot more games going off sale than new ones going on sale today. That’s how it is some Wednesdays. First of all, make sure you look through those games that are wrapping up their sales, because there are a lot of really great titles in there at dirt-cheap prices. It could be a while before the Ubisoft and SteamWorld games hit prices that low again. After you’ve checked all that, take a poke through the new sales. Snake Pass is really unusual and cool, Crimsonland is a fun twin-stick shooter at a great price, and a few other games on the list aren’t too shabby either.
