This time of the year is usually fairly dead for iOS gaming news aside from the sales we’ve been combining in our mega sale list. But, as veterans of TouchArcade are more than aware of, there’s almost always some kind of App Store weirdness or other associated drama that goes unexplained until the App Store freeze is over the following week. This year that drama involves The Binding of Issac. Quite a few people have reported, and we’ve since verified that the game is not only gone from the App Store, but has also vanished from the iTunes purchase history that typically lets you re-download anything you’ve already bought- Even if it was removed from sale.
I don’t think this is worth getting upset about just yet, beyond just raising an eyebrow. The App Store folks are all out of the office, so there’s not really anyone for Nicalis to call to complain about getting the game back on the App Store. Also, more often than not when a SNAFU like this happens it’s caused by a developer who forgot to renew their Apple developer license. Either way, the iTunes freeze is over tomorrow, so we’ll follow up and see what happens with Issac once things return to normal.
But, in the meantime, if you’ve got the game on your iPhone or iPad, don’t delete it.
Yea crazy 😀
„I don’t think this is worth getting upset about just yet, beyond just raising an eyebrow.“
It is, if the developer didn’t took it offline. He loses a toooon of money as during holidays most sales are being made. Many people get new iOS devices or AppStore Gift cards.
Would be nice if the developer gave two shits about the iOS version of the game and updated it for newer devices. Now I cant even redownload something I’ve bought.
One of my favorites on iOS
Thankfully it’s on my phone and I’m definitely not deleting it
Thanks for the heads up though and I sure hope it comes back
I don’t really care about this particular game, but I sure hope this taking a game away and not letting people re-download it after deleting it doesn’t become a trend in the App Store! 😡
If you go to the developers website, then to the game's page, it no longer shoes it as available on iOS, just the other platforms. This seems too deliberate for "forgetting to renew their developer license".
I only see The Binding of Isaac: Antibirth+ listed on the developer’s (Nicalis) website.
I purposely waited for the app to get updated at least once before buying to see if the developer actually was supporting it. Still waiting... like a year later. Guess this proves they never cared.
I still have the game on my iPad. Even if I didn’t, after 300+ hours, this game owes me nothing.
Maybe the game owes you nothing, but I feel the developer does.
Just got word from Ed Mucmillen himself on twitter he responded about the issac dissapearing act i asked about and he said Tyrone is working on it but everyone is still out for the holidays. So there you go all you Issacites! Dont panic!
