Back in September of 2016, a quirky and entertaining point-and-click-style adventure game called Isoland ($0.99) launched in the App Store. It had you playing as a research scientist traveling to a mysterious island to investigate strange occurrences, only to then find yourself stuck on the island with no way off. You’ll travel around the gorgeous hand-drawn landscapes solving many types of logical puzzles and talking to a cast of strange characters all in an effort to find out what the heck is going on. While the puzzling in Isoland was fairly basic, the solutions were always satisfyingly clever and it was easy to enjoy getting lost in the game’s strange world. Gamers seemed to enjoy the game a lot, and so developer Cotton Game went to work on a sequel called Isoland 2 – Ashes of Time, which launched on Steam this past May alongside a desktop port of the original. Now that sequel is ready to arrive on iOS and Android later this week, on June 29th. Here’s the trailer.
As the title implies, this time around you’ll be bouncing back and forth through time while solving the mysteries of Isoland. That same fantastic hand-drawn artwork makes its return, and it sounds like there is a bit more emphasis on the storyline than there was in the first game. Like the first Isoland the sequel is non-linear, meaning you can pretty much travel to whatever locations you feel like and solve puzzles as you’re able to rather than in a pre-determined order. Also like the first game Isoland 2 will feature a New Game+ mode once you’ve beaten it that will feature some different puzzles and an alternate ending. The game will be just $1.99 with IAP for puzzle solutions which are only for those who, well, want to cheat, basically. You can pre-order Isoland 2 on the iOS App Store by clicking this link on an iOS 11 device, or you can pre-register for the Android version over on the Google Play Store. Also, if you haven’t played the original Isoland but are intrigued by the look of this sequel, it’s only 99¢ and was just updated last week for the iPhone X so now is a good time to dive into it ahead of the sequel’s launch later this week.
