SwitchArcade Roundup: ‘Paladins’, ‘The Journey Down’ Trilogy, and More

Welcome to the SwitchArcade Roundup for June 7th! We’ve got a lot of cool news today, and a bunch of new sales just hit the eShop, so let’s not waste time and get right into the goodies. First off, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes was just confirmed for Switch! One week after a shameless clone released on the eShop, now Steel Crate Games is bringing the real thing to Switch. One player uses the system to try and defuse a bomb, while other players use the bomb defusal manual to instruct the defuser on what to do, with the game providing different prompts that require interpretation from the manual. The game is a lot of fun, but was originally designed for VR, though the fun comes from interacting with other people, and the panic that sets in when trying to defuse the bomb. VR just added an extra degree of immersion.

Paladins confirmed for Switch

While Blizzard keeps throwing cold water on the idea of Overwatch on the Switch, Hi-Rez Studios is set to drop their hero shooter Paladins on Switch. The game will launch first as a Founder’s Pack for $29.99 on Switch on June 12th, which unlocks all the heroes, with a free-to-play version releasing later in the summer for Switch. Between this and Fortnite, it’s sure to be a good summer for multiplayer gaming!

Galaxy of Pen and Paper coming to Switch

Behold Studios dropped Knights of Pen and Paper +1 Deluxier Edition on Switch not too long ago, and now they’re teaming with Seaven Studio to bring their sci-fi take on being both master and player of tabletop games to the Switch. Plus, there are plans for Knights of Pen and Paper 2 and Chroma Squad, their strategy-RPG take on Super Sentai/Power Rangers on Switch as well.

Nicalis announces English release of RemiLore: Lost Girl in the Lands of Lore

Who’s up for some twin-stick hack ‘n slash action with, uh, catgirls? Okay, maybe you kinda lost me there, but co-op hack ‘n slash action with procedurally-generated levels, hundreds of weapons, and a physical release planned as well? Sign me up!

The Journey Down Trilogy comes to Switch soon

Oh yes! One of my favorite graphic adventure series out there, The Journey Down, is set to come to Switch, and really soon, too! The first game hits on June 21st for $9.99, the second on June 28th for $19.99 (25% off if you own the first chapter), and the third and final chapter on July 5th for $19.99 (25% off if you have one of the first two chapters). The series was inspired by Afro-Caribbean mythology, and boasts great voice acting and writing with fun puzzles. Definitely check this series out if you haven’t already.

Project Highrise announced for Switch

The hits just keep coming! Somasim’s fun building-management game Project Highrise will get a console release with all the DLC in one release. You’ll have dozens of scenarios to play through, buildings to construct and then take care of, in different cities across the globe. Expect the release this fall!

Nine Parchments gets The Astral Challenges free update

Nine Parchments is still on sale, so if you haven’t played it, you get a bunch of new stuff to play! Six new arena levels for players level 40 or above, a new character, Selius, quick chat, and more. FrozenByte has detailed patch notes with details on new spells, items, and balance changes on their site.

Atooi Games reveals Soccer Slammers

On June 14th, Atooi Games (Xeodrifter, Mutant Mudds) will release their arcade soccer game Soccer Slammers onto the Switch. It’s two-on-two soccer with 40 playable teams, and very fast action. No out of bounds here, s you can kick the ball off of walls. That’s far more exciting than regular soccer, and reminds me of my favorite soccer game, FIFA on the Sega CD with the invisible walls code. I think FIFA’s futsal league should put up barriers. Let’s go full Arena Football here. Keep an eye out for Soccer Slammers next week.

Anker Announces USB-PD batteries, officially licensed for Nintendo Switch

The perfidious Eli Hodapp wrote about this, but Anker has official USB-PD external batteries coming out in July. The key thing is that Nintendo licensing means these will charge your Switch quickly and safely, as others might not do so based on Nintendo’s odd implementation of some USB-C standards.
