Procedurally Generated Puzzle RPG ‘The Legend of Bum-Bo’ from the Creator of ‘The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth’ Gets Its First Trailer

TouchArcade Rating:

Edmund McMillen’s The Legend of Bum-bo is set to release this year on PC and iOS platforms. If you aren’t aware of his work, he created The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth ($14.99) which is pretty great. Read our review of the iOS port here. I own and play it on literally every device I have including the Nintendo 3DS. Bum-bo from Isaac is the focus here and you play as Bum-bo in a turn based puzzle rpg. We finally have a teaser trailer for it and you can watch it below:

The paper craft like aesthetic is nice with this kind of game. I’m always up to check out Edmund’s new games and this one is with James. Gameplay involves a match 4 puzzle and of course things are all procedurally generated. There will also be skills, traps, bosses, and more. More items and characters will be unlocked as you continue playing through the game. Thematically, Edmund says this is a prequel to Isaac but won’t go into more details to avoid spoilers.

This isn’t being published by him or Nicalis for that matter. The Label will be handling this release. It is also going to be coming to Switch but that’s next year. For now, The Legend of Bum-bo will be jumping onto iOS and PC platforms later this year.

Ah yes, the information loaded "few to many" charts.

Fire Emblem is definitely a well done F2P title, but a MARIO Run is still my favorite of theirs. I just wish you could play it offline.

I'm definitely underwhelmed by Nintendo's mobile showings thus far. Fire Emblem was by far the best of the bunch but got to be a grind at higher levels and the competitive landscape seemed owned by the whales. I'm hoping Mario Kart will make up the difference, because the mechanics have always been fun no matter what the skin. Crossing my fingers they don't make it some sort of auto-play incremental racer or something.

my guess is that Nintendo is subtly trolling mobile gaming by making those evil caricatures. Pocket Camp most notably feature is making New Leaf feels immensely satisfying by comparison

Agreed. Tried the other two, don't care for them.

I am a big fan of Mario Run. I was broken hearted when it was one of the games I bought before a flight on a $5 sale event and it turned out to be “internet only”. The game though is just a blast to play for me as I prefer the simplicity of it to the console Marios. It’s also very well suited as a franchise introduction for kids.

I really dislike F2P games as a concept like the majority of posters here and as such I can’t comment on Fire Emblem or Animal Crossing.
