Terry Cavanagh’s Super Hexagon ($2.99) is one of my favourite games of all time. Barring its history on iOS and how it basically kickstarted twitch gaming on mobile, it is the first game I install on an iOS device. After launch, Terry updated it with some fixes and it got its first big update with version 2.0 that brought out dramatically better performance and proper Retina Display support. After the update that fixed save files years ago, we now have an announcement for a new update that not only fixes any iOS 11 issues but also one that adds iPhone X support. Watch a trailer for Super Hexagon below:
Over the last few years, iOS devices have become larger and resolutions have changed. We even saw many classics culled sadly with the 32 bit appocalypse. The iPhone X was a curveball for many and some even have moved on to other platforms. Terry Tweeted that he is working on an iOS 11 and iPhone X update for Super Hexagon. He is also accepting beta testers for this update and has clarified that it isn’t just for iPhone X owners. I still remember getting a beta for this before it launched and having no idea what to expect when I booted it up for the first time. It blew my mind back then and has aged like fine wine.
If you’d like to sign up for the beta test for the February 2018 update for Super Hexagon, the link is in his Tweet. It is great to see a gem on iOS still get support and future proofed for newer devices. If you’ve never played Super Hexagon, now is a great time to check it out and you can say goodbye to your free time. Just writing about it again has the Chipzel soundtrack playing in my head.
