‘Arena of Valor’ Junglers Nerfed, Skins Award Gold, and More in Upcoming Patch

TouchArcade Rating:

We’ve already posted the video from Tencent where they were teasing a few things coming in the next Arena of Valor (Free) update, but earlier this morning they posted the full patch notes over on the official Arena of Valor forums. So, what we already knew is that the daily gold cap is shifting to a weekly gold cap, gold doubler power-ups won’t allow you to earn gold past the weekly 5,500 gold cap, and having any cosmetic skin equipped will reward an additional 10% gold bonus if you win. Also, iPhone X compatibility is finally coming. What we didn’t know yet was specific changes to heroes in game, which include a pretty hefty nerf to junglers.

Mganga is getting less overpowered with his ultimate getting slightly nerfed to not do quite so much damage. Meanwhile, Fennik’s first ability, Thief’s Mark increase at a standard rate which makes him more… “balanced." Kahlii’s getting a pretty sizable buff which should improve her early game performance while removing some of her late game potential. Ignis, the newest hero added to the game is getting his ultimate buffed to do true damage instead of magic damage (which seems kind of zany as I think his ult is really good as is). Another hero is getting an early game buff, with Preyta’s first ability doing a bit more damage at early ranks to help with laning. Moren also gets whacked with the nerf bat, with the stacks generated by his first ability, Tactical Manuever, going down to 7 from 10 which should make him less of a jungler and more of a standard laning hero. Krixi’s second ability, Nature’s Wrath had its cooldown decreased while Kriknak’s ult got buffed a considerable amount.

I think the most impactful change of this update, however, is the nerf to the Soulreaver item. Currently, it awards the passive of Hunter’s Reverie (Normal attacks also deal 6% of current HP as magic damage) which made marksmen junglers super strong as their bread and butter is buffing up their standard auto-attacks. Instead, they’re swapping that passive with an additional 10% cooldown reduction which should provide more variety to the jungle. At least playing in Gold ranks, it seems like almost every jungler you come across plays Violet because she’s so ridiculously strong. It’ll be interesting to see if we end up with some more variety in the jungle with this nerf or if she’s still going to be just as good as ever.

For the full specifics on all the changes, read the full patch notes. Arena of Valor will actually be offline from 6:00 to 10:00 PM Pacific tonight while these changes are rolled out to North America. Presumably the update will go live when the servers are back up, or before then.
