The Fantastic ‘Sunless Sea’ Is on Sale, Has Never Been This Cheap

TouchArcade Rating:

Sunless Sea ($9.99), Failbetter Games’ story-driven (or, perhaps, nightmare-driven) game, has dropped to $6.99, its lowest price ever, and it’s definitely worth picking up if you like strong writing and a weird (in a good way) universe. As I talked about in my review of the game, Sunless Sea is a literary RPG that that you exploring a gloomy, uncharted sea called the Unterzee, and while the basic gameplay loop is stocking up your ship and sailing across the darkness, the game’s brilliance comes from the wonderful writing and the great characters you’ll encounter. Sunless Sea is all about your sanity (or lack thereof), so the further out you venture, the greater the rewards but also the greater the risk of your crew going insane and eating each other (yes, that can happen). I had a lot of fun going from port to port, discovering some really outlandish characters, having to trade and negotiate, all the while trying to ensure I could make it back safe and sane.

The game also has naval battles, so upgrading your ship and picking your battles is a big chunk of the game. If you aren’t the type who likes text-heavy games, you will enjoy being able to kill gigantic, nightmarish creatures and then either eat them or sell them back at port. Overall, Sunless Sea is a fantastic game that’s well worth its full price, so it’s really a no-brainer now that it’s on sale. Just keep in mind that the game is iPad only.

Man, I'd love to see an updated Costume Combo System

Puzzle Figter is the sequel to Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo????

Shouldn’t it be the other way round?

      1. Xanthon

There's no "Puzzle Fighter". The first game was named "Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo" as a parody to Street Fighter II Turbo.

So this is technically the sequel.

        1. DanCJ

          Ah, that makes sense.

I've been waiting for this to be released on mobile ever since the app store was launched. The early capcom arcade emulator had terrible controls and didn't have PvP.

It also didn't have half the progression elements of the PS1 release!

Too bad the publisher that did SF Puzzle Spirits quit updating the game after iOS 10. I still enjoy that.

If this is done right, despite F2P mechanics, it could be a fun replacement.

Well, that really sucks. Just opened the app and it says the server is shutting down on the 30th!

Oh, apparently it was the 30th of August. Too bad they didn't make the single player portion offline.
