With the big Pokemon GO (Free) update going live, many players—including in our own comments section—were worried that cheaters would ruin the new Raid and Gym features, and it looks like Niantic is similarly worried and is, therefore, taking steps to cut down on cheating. According to an official reddit comment from Niantic Support, the company wants to stay true on its commitment to making the game fun and fair for everyone. So, starting today, and Pokemon you catch using “third-party" services will be marked with a slash in your inventory and may not behave as expected.
I love that last line because it makes me think of all kinds of sci-fi futures where your Pokemon starts calling you names and accusing you of being a cheater. Even though I don’t think they’ll misbehave that badly, they’ll definitely make cheaters’ life trickier. The announcement end with Niantic’s commitment to continue trying to maintain the game’s integrity. What do you think of these new measures? Do you think they’ll be enough to deter cheaters?
