There’s no shortage of hardcore autorunner platformers starring squares as the main character, a la Geometry Dash and its ilk. However, there’s always room for more platformers in my book and underDOGS Gaming Studio is looking to put their own spin on the formula with their upcoming game Arcade Ice. The main differentiator here is that your little square main character is actually a block of ice that’s constantly melting and shrinking smaller, so not only do you have to contend with the fast pace of the game and myriad of traps and hazards but you’ll also need to pick up additional ice along the way so you don’t melt away into nothing. As the underDOGS state in our forums, Arcade Ice actually began as a simple prototype for a game jam entry, but people really loved it an so they’ve spent the past few months fleshing it out into a full-fledged game. I definitely like the whole melting ice idea, and there appears to be some really tricky level designs in play in the video. Arcade Ice is very close and is slated for release on April 13th at a price of $1.99. Until then you can chat about this one in the game’s forum thread.
