Penny Arcade Announces Tabletop-Focused PAX Unplugged Event

unnamed-18We’re huge fans of PAX events, Carter is actually at PAX South right now, so you should be seeing a whole bunch of mobile game event coverage soon-ish. One of the coolest parts of PAX (and to be fair, every part of PAX is pretty dang cool) is getting together with tons of people to play loads of board games and other tabletop stuff. The PAX crowd is super accepting and approachable, even for total newbies, and it’s real neat getting a chance to play so many weird, obscure, and/or expensive board games with people willing to teach you the ropes versus trying to get friends together back home to play a board game.

Over the years, the tabletop sections of PAX events have grown to the point that they just figured they’d make a totally tabletop-focused event, which is where PAX Unplugged comes in. It’ll be held in Philadelphia this November from the 17th to the 19th, and while there aren’t many details available yet, I’m basically imagining it as Gencon with a Penny Arcade spin, which sounds awesome.

And really, it being sort of a slow news day on Friday gives me an opportunity to reiterate that if you are interested in any facet of geek culture whether that’s mobile games, painting Warhammer miniatures, panels from industry veterans, board games, nerdcore concerts, or anything else, you’ll find a place at PAX. While PAX Unplugged sounds rad, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, just go to ANY PAX.
