‘Strange Telephone’ and ‘A Normal Lost Phone’ Show It’s a Hot Time for Literal Phone Games

TouchArcade Rating:

January 26th should be remembered as a monumental day for games about phones. Japanese developer Yuta Yamamoto released Strange Telephone ($3.99), an odd adventure game featuring, well, a strange telephone. You play as Jill, and with the Graham, the eponymous phone, you explore a strange world, and discover the multiple endings ahead of you. The production values and concept seem really intriguing, and a bit unique compared to other point and click games. This one’s available on mobile now:

The other game about telephones is A Normal Lost Phone ($2.99) which is doubly ironic. One, I’m pretty sure that phone isn’t a normal lost phone, and two, it releases the same day as Strange Telephone. I’m amused by such simple things. A Normal Lost Phone has you, the player, finding the phone of a person named Sam, and as you look through it to find their information, you learn about their life. The game was developed by French studio Accidental Queens, and the story will deal with topics of sexuality, identity, and growing up. There’s a 12-track soundtrack by different artists, as well. This one seems intriguing, and it’s out now on iOS, Android, and PC simultaneously, though playing this one on a phone seems only appropriate.
