Hello everyone, and welcome to the week! It’s time once again for our look back at the noteworthy updates of the last seven days. There’s a chill in the air, which might explain why things are still not quite at full speed on the update front this year. We’ve got some good ones this week, no doubt, but not many surprises beyond the appearance of our favorite Man-Horse Dating Simulator. Of course, you can keep an eye out for updates yourself using AppShopper Social (Free), the watchlist in the TouchArcade App (Free), or by participating in the TouchArcade forums, but this weekly summary is here to fill in the things you might have missed. Let’s dig in!
Air Supply - 1bit Run, $0.99 Let’s start things off with a healthy stretch. Quantum Sheep did the rounds last week updating most of his games for compatibility. While our fluffy friend was at it, he decided to make the last non-universal Air Supply game into something iPad players can enjoy without making use of zooming. It looks and plays quite well on the bigger screen, and it’s as good an excuse as any to dive back into the Air Supply games. Someone get this developer an extra cup of #tea for a job well-done!
My Horse Prince, Free Arguably the finest Man-Horse Dating Simulator released on iOS in 2016, My Horse Prince charmed many of us with its bizarre sense of humor and a story that always kept you coming back. Er, at least until you reached the end of the content, in which case, there was nothing to come back to. But now there is! There are three more episodes to play through, full of weirdness, hunky horse-men, and all that good stuff. Certainly a worthy winner of the Update Mondays Most Beta Ray Bills of the Week award! Wait, is that a thing?
Siralim 2 (Monster Taming RPG), $4.99 I’m not 100% sure, but I think Siralim 2 got two actual updates in the last week. Let’s check. (noisy keyboard sounds with Hollywood bleep-bloop sound effects) Yes, yes it did. Usually, when that happens, it’s because there was a bug in the first update and they needed to rush a fix or something, but no, each of these updates has new stuff. Thylacine, you’re making everyone else look bad! The latest update adds some new upgrades in the form of Improved Altars of Blood, along with a bunch of UI and balance adjustments. The update before that made a ton of balance changes and fixed some bugs. Yes, you’re getting your Update Mondays Most Spider-Mans of the Week award yet again, Siralim. You’re going to need a closet for them by the time you’re through, I suspect.
Fly Catbug Fly!, $1.99 Bravest Warriors is back for another season, so it only makes sense that the game based on it has made a triumphant return as well. Enjoy a new level based on Season 3, the Planet Beanus. Marvel at 18 new item pick-ups plucked from the new season. Stand in sheer awe at some minor bug fixes and improvements. They are all here, my friends. All of them. Also, it’s a reason to fire up Fly Catbug Fly! again. So there’s that.
Disney Crossy Road, Free DIS! HONOR! DISHONOR! DISHONOR ON YOU! DISHONOR ON YOUR FAMILY! DISHONOR ON YOUR COW! Alright, let’s get down to business. Disney Crossy Road got an update that added some figures and a new stage based on Mulan, which is one of the best Disney movies and I will fight about that. So update your game as swift as the coursing river and you’ll find Mulan, Mushu, Ling, Chien-Po, and Yao, king of the rock, waiting for you, along with some others. There are also 15 new figures from other Disney worlds, but their identities are as mysterious as the dark side of the moon. Good luck finding them!
Crusaders Quest, Free The latest version of Crusaders Quest adds some new content and piles on the cross-over love. There’s the new Hard Episode 7 to play through, 6 new characters from the King of Fighters ’98, a new Hard Ancient Dungeon connected to that collaboration, a new champion named West Wind, some new skins and package items, balance tweaks, and UI improvements. Phew. Still no apostrophe in the title. Still bothers me more than I’ll ever fully admit.
Don't Starve: Pocket Edition, $4.99 I could sit here all day trying to think of a flowery way to punch up a pretty straightforward update, but in the end, all that would be accomplished is that you would know Don’t Starve got an update that added the virtual stick control option from spin-off Shipwrecked, improved the app’s battery consumption, and made some overall improvements to the game’s performance. So let’s just leave it there, because you’ve already read more than enough of my dog and pony show for one day.
The Sandbox Evolution, Free This game is so weird with its updates. I never know what is coming next. So this update adds a new medieval fantasy pack of stuff to the game that lets you take a King into battle with his army of knights, crossbowmen, catapults, and so on, against the forces of evil. This pack also includes some bad guys, buildings, and more to play around with.
MARVEL Future Fight, Free The Future is NOW! Haah, like that? I worked on that one for a while, pretty proud of it. This update puts some featured characters from Marvel NOW! into the game, including Kate Bishop Hawkeye, Ironheart (Riri Williams), and the queen of the Inhumans, Medusa. Plus, new costumes for Yellow Jacket, Captain America, Amadeus Cho, Red Hulk, and the Unbeatable Squirrel Girl! There’s also a new feature for upgrading your costumes. I bet that costs a penny or two!
Skyline Skaters, Free It’s been a little while since the last update for Skyline Skaters, but they’re back to their usual tricks this time. They’re off to Shangai, and I’m sure they’ll treat the place respectfully. Incidentally, you can now crash through office buildings, and leaves will now blow in the wind! I’m…I’m not sure how all of these things are connected, but they certainly must be, right?
That about wraps it up for last week’s significant updates. I’m sure I’ve missed some, though, so please feel free to comment below and let everyone know if you think something should be mentioned. As usual, major updates will likely get their own news stories throughout this week, and I’ll be back next Monday to summarize and fill in the blanks. Have a great week!
