The addition of new creatures to Pokemon GO (Free) has been one of the ever-present rumors that has been circulating the internet in the last few months, and with Niantic teasing an official announcement of additional monsters for the augmented reality app today, there has been a lot of anticipation amongst fans on what this upcoming huge update could be. Some prophesied the inclusion of the entire Generation 2 cast from the Game Boy Color classics Pokemon Gold and Silver; others had slightly more conservative predictions of the three legendary birds finally being obtainable. However, the developers have today called an end to such speculation, as they have announced through a YouTube video that select Pokemon from the second generation of creatures – with Togepi and Pichu explicitly shown – will start to hatch from eggs within Pokemon GO.
While there aren’t many details about the nature and exact cast of critters that will be seen within Pokemon GO in the coming weeks, I’d take an educated guess that the baby Pokemon from Pokemon Gold and Silver will be the ones which will show up in this initial wave of additions. These Pokemon should include the aforementioned Togepi and Pichu, as well as Igglybuff, Cleffa, Smoochum, Tyrogue, Elekid and Magby. Furthermore, Niantic also announced that special Pikachu with Christmas hats will also be available within the game to capture until December 29th – more info can be found on the Pokemon GO website. This isn’t exactly the major second generation addition of creatures that many were expecting but it’s a start, and hopefully means more favorites such as Cyndaquil and Crobat will become available sooner rather than later. Either way, be sure to let us know your thoughts on our Pokemon GO forum thread.
