Way back in August of 2012, developer Yeah Us! released an unassuming side-scrolling physics-based BMX game called Pumped: BMX ($1.99). I say unassuming because on the surface, with its cartoonish art and virtual button setup, it appeared like any of the thousands of similar games that had flooded the App Store. However, that simply wasn’t the case. Pumped: BMX was amazing. It featured a really good physics system that demanded you learn the ins and outs of riding the terrain, coupled with a surprisingly deep trick system that took a bit to get the hang of but once you did it felt like a Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game.
The original Pumped: BMX apparently did well and found a strong audience, because in 2014 Yeah Us! released the sequel Pumped BMX 2 ($1.99) which took the entire concept to the next level with 3D graphics, a more complex trick and mission system, and all-new levels. Shaun loved it in our official review, and it easily made my personal Best Games of 2014 list that year. Well, if you’re a fan of the Pumped BMX series like we are around here, you’ll be very happy to see that Pumped BMX 3 is all primed and ready for release later this month on September 29th. Check out the awesome trailer.
Pumped BMX 3 will feature 15 of the world’s top BMX pros, and possibly some hidden unlockable characters too, if the hints on the official website are anything to go by. There will be 60 brand new levels across 6 different environments, as well as a whopping 720 new challenges to complete. The challenge system is one of the best things about the Pumped BMX series as it gave you incentive to practice, improve your skills, and master each and every level. Yeah Us! also states that this is the final installment in the series, so I expect them to go all out to make the best Pumped BMX ever. Android folks will be happy to know that their version of Pumped BMX 3 will be launching right alongside the iOS version on September 29th.
