The ‘Pokemon’ Movie, ‘Detective Pikachu’, Will Likely Involve ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Gravity Falls’ Writers

Pikachu will be pulling a Sherlock Holmes in movie theaters near you soon, and we might now know who will be in the movie’s writing room. According to a Variety story, Nicole Perlman and Alex Hirsch are currently in negotiations to write the live-action Detective Pikachu, as the movie will be called. Perlman has been involved in the writing of Marvel movies such as Guardians of the Galaxy and Thor and will also be writing the upcoming Captain Marvel movie. Hirsch is responsible for Disney’s Gravity Falls, so with these two writers behind the project, I’m hopeful that the movie will actually be well-written and fun (famous last words, I know).

The deal for the movie came out around two weeks after the release of Pokemon GO, so it was perfect timing since Pokemon was all of a sudden the talk of every town. However, the movie won’t be out for quite some time, so I do have to wonder how popular the franchise will be by the time Pikachu hits the theaters. I’m sure the creators would have loved to be able to get that movie out tomorrow if they could.
