Crescent Moon Games have such a varied and dynamic catalog of games that it’s become hard to know what to expect from them anymore. While they are responsible for some behemoth big-budget titles – such as the upcoming Morphite – that normally attract a massive amount of hype and speculation, Crescent Moon Games also publishes smaller titles that, while not lacking in charm, tend to be somewhat hit and miss. Nonetheless, it’s great to give a platform to some creative indie developers, and Atomic Super Lander, from developers Bit Weird Games, is the next to launch on the App Store.
Atomic Super Lander appears to be a cool mashup of both platforming and rocket-piloting gameplay, with your audacious astronaut avatar tasked with navigating environmental traps in a space rocket, landing onto an asteroid and planting a nuclear bomb, saving the earth through a courageous act of self sacrifice. While it remains to be seen how in depth the on foot action will be, the rocket-piloting elements remind me of iOS classic Bit Pilot ($1.99). With an eclectic range of vehicles to unlock and master – from a party van to a monster truck – Atomic Super Lander could carve itself a niche as a quirky and idiosyncratic pilot-platforming game on the App Store.
