E3 2016: ‘Dragon Raja’ is an Impressive-Looking Hack ‘n Slash RPG that’s Popular in Asian and Heading West

Locojoy Games is one of the top mobile game developers in China, and they’re partnering up with US-based Narvalous to bring one of their more popular games, the action RPG Dragon Raja, to the North American market. During E3 we were able to play a brief demo of Dragon Raja, and while it certainly treads familiar territory in the action RPG genre, it had some really impressive visuals and satisfying combat that controlled really well on the touchscreen. Check it out.

Now, I have a tough time with these sort of hack ‘n slash action RPGs as there’s just so darn many of them that it never really feels like any of them stand out. And since they’re all free to play they generally are built for tons of grinding and tons of gacha character unlocking and leveling, and to be honest I just don’t have time in my life to play too many of these. All that said, Dragon Raja was a lot of fun and I really liked the different characters in the game and your ability to pick a team of 3 to switch between at any time while playing. The characters’ special abilities are all really cool and with things like real-time shadows it’s a really impressive looking game visually. Whether or not I’ll be in it for the long haul or not remains to be seen, but I’m remaining open minded about Dragon Raja based on my time with it at E3. Expect to see this as well as many other of Locojoy’s games to hit the North American market later this year and beyond.
