Orbital platformers are a popular genre on iOS, and at first glance Paperkyte’s upcoming Orbit’s Odyssey looks like another one. But something’s different here. You’re not leaping from planet to planet, rather you’re running back and forth collecting coins while utilizing teleporters to avoid enemies. This seems to add more of a puzzle element to Orbit’s Odyssey compared to similar games. All that said, it’s really the game’s killer art style that’s grabbed my attention the most. Check out the trailer.
Looks really cool, right? Strangely, this game appears to have been soft-launched or partially launched nearly a year ago, based on the original forum thread. I’m not sure what happened to it, but it was originally a free game so perhaps Paperkyte pulled the game to continue working on it and transforming it into a paid game. At any rate, Orbit’s Odyssey will come with 90 levels that feature “a huge variety of puzzles" and 100 stars to earn in each. Collecting coins and gems will enable you to unlock new characters. Oh, and the entire game is played with just a single touch, so no swiping or weird virtual buttons to worry about.
I never had the chance to try out the game when it was available previously, but just based on the trailer I think Orbit’s Odyssey looks mighty interesting, and you can look forward to officially getting your hands on it next week on April 20th for a price of $2.99.
