Motorsport Manager ($5.99) is free for the first time ever, and if you enjoy games where you manage racing drivers but are tired of the Kairosoft offerings, you should definitely pick this one up. When Motorsport Manager originally came out in 2014, people who enjoy racing games were pretty wowed by the game’s visuals, especially the tilt-shift camera effect that dominated race days. The game has you doing the usual cycle of hiring drivers, building the car, hiring mechanics and so on, which is all pretty standard stuff for the genre. There isn’t that much depth in that aspect of the game, which for some is a blessing and others a curse. Still, there are fun moments like hearing your drivers complain about each other all the time.

The most entertaining part of the game is definitely race day where you get to pick strategies and tires for your drivers and then watch the race unfold. Your drivers will offer feedback on the status of their car, which helps you make decisions on tire selection and pit strategy, and you can also check the weather forecast in order to plan your race accordingly. You’ll often find yourself at the edge of your seat hoping those tires last another lap or that rain doesn’t start for another lap or so. When I played it back in the day, I was pleasantly surprised at the number of tense moments Motorsport Manager created. So, if you looking for an entertaining and quite good-looking game, pick up Motorsport Manager while it’s free.
