Late last year the powers that be at Square Enix announced that Romancing SaGa 2 was coming to mobile. In true Squeenix fashion, details were scarce beyond them saying the game was coming and dropping the mic. Well, today we’ve learned that Romancing SaGa 2 is scheduled to be released in Japan on March 24th for the equivalent of roughly $20. (So, normal Square Enix pricing.) Check out the trailer:
In our previous article, Shaun lays out the basic premise of the game:
Originally released on the 16-bit Super Famicom, Romancing SaGa 2 is a highly unusual RPG that has you take on the role of Emperor of Avalon over the course of several generations. As the ruler of your modest empire, you have to take care of finances, invest in new equipment, set up new services, and so on. But you’re a very hands-on leader, because you’ll also need to venture out with a party of adventurers to solve the problems your trusty chancellor outlines. Once you settle all of the issues the chancellor lays out, you’ll select your heir and move on to the next generation. Don’t worry, it leads somewhere eventually.
It’s totally unclear right now as to whether or not Romancing SaGa 2 is going to be released in English on the US App Store, as nothing Square has released has mentioned that on any level… But, there is an argument to be made that Squeenix is sort of running out of games to port, having already launched most of their popular titles on mobile. The US is a huge market hungry for their RPG’s, so, even weird old ones like this that not many people have heard of might do surprisingly well.
Either way, Shaun will have a review of the game whether it’s in English or Japanese, so stay tuned for that. Also check out the game’s site, it’s all in Japanese but the way it scrolls is really cool.
