‘Assassin’s Creed Identity’ Finally Coming February 25th After 1.5 Year Soft-Launch

Dial your Wayback Machine to September of 2014 and Ubisoft soft-launched a game called Assassin’s Creed Identity in the New Zealand and Australian App Stores. While the Assassin’s Creed brand had been on mobile in several iterations before, Identity was the first “true" Assassin’s Creed mobile game to mimic the play style of the popular console and PC games, rather than be some sort of branded spinoff. People who jumped in on the soft-launch had tons of great things to say about Assassin’s Creed Identity, and it seemed poised to make a big splash for the franchise on mobile. Except… it never came. It just stayed in soft-launch forever until finally disappearing completely from the NZ and AU App Stores last month. As it turned out, all was well with Identity and it was merely pulled for its upcoming full launch which Ubisoft has told us will be later this month on February 25th. Here’s a brand new trailer.

Assassin’s Creed Identity will have you create and customize your own assassin based on one of four different classes: Berserker, Shadow Blade, Trickster and Thief. Through main storyline missions and “countless" quests you’ll unravel The Mystery of The Crows in a number of Italian Renaissance locales like the Santa Croce area in Firenze or the Colosseum area in Roma. There will also be a number of control options including tap-to-move, dual-sticks, and MFi controller support. Surprisingly, Ubisoft says Assassin’s Creed Identity will launch for $4.99, which marks a change in strategy from the free-to-play soft-launched version of the game. It’s unknown whether it’ll have IAPs still or not, but at the very least the soft-launch players all seemed to agree that the IAP was entirely useless in the game anyway. My gut tells me this will be a paid with no IAP at all game, as free to play systems typically feel out of place when they’re shoehorned into the more traditional types of games like this one. At any rate, all will be clear on February 25th when Assassin’s Creed Identity finally officially launches in the App Store.
