Back in mid-November, Button Mash Games announced that they would be bringing Forbidden Desert, the sort-of sequel to the popular cooperative board game Forbidden Island ($4.99), to the iPad sometime early this year. Today we’ve gotten word from Button Mash that Forbidden Desert has just been submitted to the App Store, meaning its release shouldn’t be too far off. The original Forbidden Island was created by Matt Leacock and released in physical form in 2010 before being ported to the iPad in late 2011. In this follow-up, players are part of an expedition team trying to recover all the parts of a legendary flying machine from the endless sea of sand that is the desert. Being a cooperative game you’ll need to work together to uncover clues that lead you to the parts, while also overcoming obstacles like a limited amount of water and sandstorms that can easily destroy all your hard work.
Forbidden Desert sounds really cool, and I’m always a big fan of games you can play on the same device in the same room with other people. There’s not enough of that going around anymore in our hyper-connected world, you know? Despite that Button Mash Games will still be exploring the option of adding online multiplayer to Forbidden Desert sometime down the road, but at launch it will simply have local multiplayer. If all goes well with approval, we should be seeing Forbidden Desert on the App Store in the next few weeks.
