If you are a fan of strategy games, you are in luck as Slitherine is dropping Star Hammer: The Vanguard Prophecy on the App Store this Thursday. If you don’t know what the game’s about, it’s a 3D tactical space battles game that will have you battling spaceships while managing your crew’s personalities and morale. The game utilizes the WeGo system, which let’s you plan your attacks and then watch the results in real-time. I enjoy this type of strategy games because turn-based games can some times end up feeling a bit too slow and predictable (although I still enjoy those, too). The game rewards unit positioning and flanking maneuvers, which points to a relatively high-level of tactical complexity. Add to this the ability to play around with the energy distribution to your shields, engines, and weapons, and you can see how this should be fun.
The game offers a pretty long branching campaign, which I’ve heard is pretty interesting, and a skirmish mode that should be great for those who enjoy tactical games but hate words. The game is single player only, which is a pity because I do love destroying other players’ spaceships. The game’s been out on PC for some time now, and it’s been pretty well received, so I’m hopeful that we’ll be getting a pretty good space strategy game this Thursday. I only hope that the UI will work well on the iPad. As with all other Slitherine games, Star Hammer will be premium and, apparently, it’s iPad Pro ready. So, ready to blow up spaceships?
