If you’re a fan of the original Street Fighter 2 series, collected on iOS as the Street Fighter 2 Collection ($3.99), you might want to check this out. Bravewave, a music label “dedicated to exploring the interplay between video games, music, and nostalgia" and boasting a roster of talent from a ton of classic and modern games, including Manami Matsumae, whom Shaun interviewed last year. But the label recently got to work on remastering the Street Fighter 2 soundtrack in its entirety as Street Fighter 2: The Definitive Soundtrack, and it’s fantastic. They apparently recorded the entire soundtrack from the original CPS-1 and CPS-2 arcade boards for the original and Super flavors of the game respectively, and then had original composer Yoko Shimomura work with them to restore the soundtrack and make it sound pristine.
The soundtrack is available right now for $21 on Bandcamp, which nets you literally every track ever recorded for the arcade Street Fighter 2 games, including a couple of unused tracks, and a whole collection of sound effects. It is the definitive soundtrack after all. The CD version is available for $25 plus shipping, and nets you the digital version right now before the CD ships. Seriously, Bandcamp is awesome to shop on like that, and if you buy from them, you can stream the soundtrack through the Bandcamp app .

I’d kill to see a definitive Street Fighter 2 game that added in MFi controls for iOS, but don’t know how likely it is these days, unfortunately. But hey, the world is not lacking for ways to play Street Fighter 2 in some form or another. Now it just has the definitive remastered soundtrack to listen to when not playing Street Fighter 2.
