You know, I don’t think many gamers have realized the impact Telltale Games has had on gaming ever since The Walking Dead came out back in April 2012. Episodic, narrative-driven games had really disappeared from the gaming scene before Telltale came around and stripped the adventure game recipe down to its narrative core, added a few quick-time events for those who really can’t do without some “action" in their games, and took the gaming world by storm, raking in award after award and IP after IP. The company has followed The Walking Dead with many other similar games and has really established itself as the master of the narrative-driven game. So, no one should be surprised that the new Complex original Magnum Opus Games is all about Telltale Games.

Telltale: Story Mode is coming out tomorrow, and from the short trailer above you can see the narrative core of this short documentary. It really is a story of the “underdog" that decided to go where other companies wouldn’t dare go, to make episodic, licensed games that would be interactive narratives and would be distributed digitally. The documentary looks very well made, and I’m looking forward to watching it because, as I said before, this is a company that has reached a point of popularity where the term “Telltale" can be used to describe a whole genre of gaming or even a game that puts narrative first.
