Way back in June of last year, developer Physmo teased an image on Twitter for Mos Speedrun 2, a sequel that I’d been hoping for for years as the original Mos Speedrun ($0.99) is among my all-time favorite platformers. Not a lot happened for a while after that original announcement, but then earlier this year Phsymo started posting trailers of Mos Speedrun 2, one in early January and another in late July. Finally, after all this time, today Physmo has announced a release date for Mos Speedrun 2, and it’s at the end of this month on September 30th. Hallelujah!
While the original Mos Speedrun was largely all about finding an optimal path through a level while avoiding enemies and environmental hazards, you can expect a lot of additional mechanics in the sequel, like rope-swinging, wall-jumping and block-pushing. There’s also a revamped costume system which will let you mix and match outfits for Mos, and the whole “ghost" aspect has been expanded too and now instead of just showing you all the ghosts from your own previous failed runs you’ll get to play along and compete with the ghosts from your Game Center friend list.
Mos Speedrun 2 looks like an improvement in every way over the original, so look for it to land on the App Store as a paid game with no IAP September 30th. Oh and since the game is already available on Steam as of earlier this month, you can expect MFi controller support in the iOS version and most likely an Apple TV version too once that device gets out in the wild.
