Ten One Design’s Control Pad is a Rebranding of the Fling Joystick Attachment

Remember the Fling? Back before even iCade was a thing, the Fling simulated a joystick by attaching to the bezel of the iPhone or iPad, and providing a physical joystick. It was a cool idea but a decidedly imperfect solution, as not all virtual joysticks are made equally, and floating joysticks caused some issues, too. So it seemed like the Fling was left to die. Now, it seems like Ten One Design wants to bring back the Fling with the fourth-gen Apple TV coming out, as they’ve announced the Control Pad, which is a rebranding of the Fling, but seemingly aimed more for apps that work as remote controllers for Apple TV games.

What’s kind of funny is that in the FAQ, Ten One says that “Some initial shipments [of Control Pad] may even still say Fling." That definitely sounds like they’re trying to get rid of some old stock to go with new shipments of the Control Pad. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s any demand for the Control Pad. After all, not all games support MFi controllers, and they’re still pretty expensive. Plus, a Control Pad multi-pack goes for $14.99 and with the right multiplayer game, maybe there’s an audience here? At worst, hey, if there’s still some Fling units sitting around, might as well try to get rid of them, eh?
